When they say molding they mean weather stripping. If its really bad you mine as well have that replaced too but 400 bucks is an outrageous price. With labor its probably half the price.
Yes they mean weather stripping with it glue in they uselly rip it when they pull the old windsheld as they rip mine. but new windsheld makes your ride look great sonny95lt1
I didn't reread all the posts but I expect there were suggestions
that you can get new glass installed for less than $200, out the
door. Well, perhaps you can.
This thread has a compelling post at the end as to why it is better
to have the job done properly
On my 86 when the windshield was replaced they didnt remove and replace the windshield weatherstrip retainers correctly and water leaks into the floor, you know that leak that drips off the dash cornor into the floor well, yea, in most cases this is where it comes from,
If u get your windshield done be sure the shop knows vettes, lots of trim and weather seals should be replaced if the job is done right.
Is it true that you need the new molding when they replace the windshield? And is it really 400 bucks?
It was my understanding that you needed new molding(trim) when replacing windshield. Speedy Auto Glass came to the same conclusion when they looked in their book to see what parts are required.
A day after i got the car back, i get a call from Speedy saying that my insurance company says the trim is not a required item and that i owe them something like $600.
I talked to the manager the next day and told him it's their fault, not mine, and he can take the trim off and put my old stuff back on. I also warned him that if he fu***d up the new weatherstrip in any way, i will make him replace it. He came to the conclusion that he better just leave things be and that he would deal with the matter.
Is an insurance company covering the replacement ??
The trim can be damaged if some hack removes it not knowing how its done and a little advise,if the glass shop nicks, scratches the windshield frame,it can become a source of rust. The best glass is OEM,Safelite is junk from what I hear.I did mine about 6 months ago,not a fun job and I did find rust in the windshield frame and I live in Ca.
The windshield in my 85 cost $125.00 installed.
C&j Autoglass in Salinas Ca. In my T-Bird it was $363.00 installed.
I've used this same shop for 10 years never a problem.
I just had mine done yesterday. They tried to save the weather stripping, and I was watching the guy and he was being very careful, but it did tear. I wasn't upset, it was starting to dryrot and crack anyway. So he is coming back to the house today with the weatherstriping to put it on. Total price on the windshield and weatherstriping is going to be ~$325 installed. $175 for glass and $125 for seal, + tax ect.
When I had my windshield replaced-first they cleaned the trim-didn't need to be replaced, it's just easier for them to replace it than clean it.
Second, they put in an after market gasket-it was real firm and leaked, they agreed to replace it with an OEM gasket-at their expense, the OEM is about $250.-sounds like their ripping you.The windshield, gasket and labor was around $500.
