This is a real judmental item but I think a year might make you more comfortable. I don't do that but if I sence a problem I go right in to get it checked regardless of time factor, cheeper than tires and not that expensive. I guess depends on your driving. Charge on

I wouldn't look at this as a "time" event. I think I'd do it about every 20K miles or so... unless some event occurs before that which may lead you to believe that an alignment is necessary.
(you know, like taking the Dana out for a gear change...)
As long as nothing is worn, it drives true and straight and no uneven wear no reason to make any changes. I'm on my second set of GS-D3's so probably about 35K now on the same alignment. It still is true and perfect wear even after switching the fronts from 8.5" to 9.5" wheels.
Of course that will change shortly as I'm going to replace the outer tie rods which will force another alignment. I use Chevy to do the alignment. They seem to get it right the first time unlike Firestone.
Only align it when you need it. Notice things like uneven tire wear, or the most obvious of it pulling to one direction when you let go of the steering wheel.
Ive only aligned mine once in the 6+ years i've had it, and that was because i nailed a huge pothole.
I hear that the C4's have one of the best alignment's ever (i know im not using the proper term here, but you know what I mean)... from almost everyone I have ever talked to about alignment, you can drive off a cliff and it still will drive straight afterwards.
