From: Minnesota in the summer, Las Vegas in the winter
I am doing the top on my 72 right now. No directions came either. Be sure to take pics and write down information as you go. The 72 was all rusted away so it took fabrication and welding. I think Ecklers sells a how-to-video. Since I almost never drive the 72 with a top anyway I can take all summer to do the top. There is a website www.rowleycorvette.com that has a 5 page how-to- with pics for the C3s. I have to think that a C4 top will be easier than a C3 top but not sure..........
Check the prior posts. They really are not intended to be done by the do it yourselfer. Mine also had bands that needed replacing. It's a big job and I spent about 900 bucks, top included to get mine done. Looks great now.
Make sure you use a piece of soap to make the center .
Lay it over the top on the car now, line it up and mark the center ,front and back.Find some realy good spray glue.
Take your time.I used glue remover with laquer thinner mixed together, just the glue remover by itself doesn't work that great.Cover all the paint.
Bag all the screws and mark them which side they came from.
Dont mix up the left and right side.
DON'T CUT ANY OF THE TOP UNTIL YOU HAVE IT PULLED TIGHT AND ALL THE GLUE HAS SET UP.
Clean all the screws with laquor thinner.
Not hard just not a lot of fun if the inner liner is shot.
Get some Scotch guard and give it an extra spraying, after install.
I went to the sports athority and got some spray on waterproofing for camping tents.Replace all the felt,I used industrial strength velcro from Ace Hardware, install it side ways not with the grain and wrap it all the way around the plastic pieces.
