why can't you remove the lisence plate to get to the tail light assemblies?

Is it the two outer most tail lights you are concerned with? Cause if thats the case, osm
t it a matter of removing the two inner tail lights then getting to the outer ones through these holes?

Otherwise you have to take the rear bumper assembly off (or loosen) and get up from underneath.

Im sure others will chime in, I have not done it myself, just have read about it on the forum.

EMB, are you saying that you can't reach the bulbs? can't find the bulbs? or you can't get the liscense plate off?

As cosmic said you have to remove the inboard lenses to get to the outer bulbs. To do that you need a 10mm wrench or socket and ratchet. IIRC there are only 2 nuts/bolts on each assembly.

Good luck and let us know if you were able to get it done.

BTW. please fill out your profile so we know a little about you. Mostly where you live.

Remove the back up light when you take off the plate. 10 minute job.

Remove the license plate, the backup lights, and the two screws that hold the bumper to the rear impact assembly. Removing these parts and screws allows you to pull the rear bumper back a little and gives you more room to reach behind the tailights. The two 10mm screws that hold the tailights are in the 11 and 5 o'clock positions. Use a 1/4" ratchet and a 10mm socket to loosen the screws. Try not to drop the tools or screws. Once in awhile they'll fall on top of the rear impact bar and will be next to impossible to retrieve. Once the inner lamp is out unplug it and set it aside. Reach through the inner hole to remove the outer lamp assembly or unplug the lamp harness and replace the outer bulb. It's best to do all 4 while your at it.
