When is a good time to buy a Corvette and how do I know that I am not getting taking to the cleaner, or my pockets pick. I have look at least five Corvette this past month, the milage were high and so was the price expect the 92 with 113,000 miles asking 8500 for it and a 84 with 75,000 miles asking price 7500. I wanted a Corvette that I don't have to put alot of money into, you know what I mean.
I think one of the best investments you can make is to have the vette thoroughly inspected by a vette mechanic, or by a knowledgeable forum member who might check out the car for you. I'm not sure how much you're willing to spend, but i would suggest you wait for a low mileage car. With all things being equal, depending on the previous owner's maintenance history on the particular car, a lower mileage car should typically have fewer problems then a higher mileage one.

whatever you decide to buy, having it looked over by an experienced person like the other poster mentioned, make sure you set aside some money for unexpected repairs that most likely will come...
These cars are 10 - 22 years old now and stuff is going to break out of nowhere... Just remember you're not buying a new car and even with low mileage stuff will break just because of age... I hate to see people get disenchanted with C4s because they buy one expecting brand new car reliability and find out the hard way that it's an expensive hobby...
Plus, it never hurts to run the options by us here on the forum... Who knows, you might even find a local forum member to volunteer to help you look the car over for the price of lunch or a beer...
A good time for me was after working and planning for 4 years to get my own car over here. After first pleasing my wife by getting the car she wanted *first*, then more work, driving a Toyota pickup with 300 000 miles on the clock 50 miles a day, then more work...
Then after finally deciding I wanted a Corvette, months of research on this car. Reading reading reading. Narrowing my choice down to the exact year and model that I wanted. More research, looking at lots of car ads. Checking out the pricing, checking out the running costs. Checking out the seller as much as the car.
I think I got lucky in the end, but only after putting my time in (lots of that spent on this forum before becoming a member)
