Hello all. Virgin owner here. Bought my first vette last weekend, 1986 coupe. I'm having a problem with the driver's window hitting the paint just behind the door and was told that there is a somewhat simple solution to the problem. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Door panels are off, new ones are here and wanted to fix the window before installing the new ones. Thanks in advance.
Not sure if the 86 has a window stop, but I had to replace the front stop that was broken on my 95. The back top of the window was hitting the vert top beyond the weatherstripping. This started knocking the black paint off the metal piece. I also noticed the front bottom of the window was up more than it should be. It was like the window was down in the back and up in the front. I bought a $12 window stop from GM and it fixed the problem. I think the windows are adjustable somehow, but never tried. Maybe someone else has a better soultion.
I have an 86E also, great car and welcome to the forum.
There was a lengthy thread with pics for replacing the part in the door that would fix this
Anybody know where it is?
I dont think it was made a sticky
Geoff I see you figured out how to get on CF
Lots of help here
Does the window ride up on a single rod locate just ahead of the window. You should be able to see the rod. If so verify that the window guide stop is intact. These are made of plastic and will break easy. It is located towards the bottom of the glass, has two plastic fingers with felt on the insides of the fingers which buffers the ride on the rod.
If so, replacing it will allow the window to ride along the guide rod positioning it correctly.
Thanks to all of you, glad to be here as an owner. I'll check out the link and also check out the window guide stop this weekend when working on the door panels. I'll post some pics as soon as I get some on the computer. I want to document the transformation in myself as well as the car over the next few months. This ought to be fun.

There's a cone shaped attached to a glass stud that hits a metal bracket, this stops the front of the window from going up (and keeps the rear of the window from shifting back.
This mustve come loose or the plastic cone broke. That metal bracket can do hell to your glass too if it rubs. You'll have to take the door panel off to get to it.
