You want a C5?....then buy a C5. Early examples are certainly affordable.
Again, I agree with you guys. Want a C5? Buy a C5. And you're exactly right, if you are familiar enough with the different years, you will recognize what's been done. The roofline gives it away on the coupes. I may have failed to mention that my dad's car is a convertible so it won't be quite as easy to spot. For me, it's how narrow it looks from behind and the clamshell hood that gives it away the most other than the coupe roofline.

otherwise, its an aggregious error in judgement, taste, and sense.
I thought about doing it once but after seeing more pics I just dont think I could bring myself to do it. The bigest reason I wanted to do it was for better fog lights. Seems like the C4 fog lights are for show.

Again, I do not prefer a C4 or a "fakey-doo" C5. I own a Z06 which is my choice of vettes. All I wanted was some pics of some convertibles with the conversion done for my dad to look at, that's all. It's for him, not me. I didn't know it was such a touchy subject... And let's all remember, it's individual style that makes everyone different. Maybe most of you don't like it (I don't either), but I'm willing to let someone else explore something different without getting offended by it.

you should see some of the threads when people just ask for pics of body kits in general. There are quite a few people with the greenwood kits (myself included) but very few with the c5 conversion (if any). Regardless of the responses here, be sure to post up pics for those of us who do appreciate something different
btw - it doesn't matter what you say about your preference, this is a chance for all the purists to vent again
My 91 was the first year they went to the body matched molded trim line. I had a poser tell me his car was a 91 in the year 92 I didnt drive my Vette that day his was a 84 he had the frt and rear square light bumper. I asked could I see the engine when he lifted the hood I couldn't hold back the laughter he asked why I was laughing (I was still unsure until then, I just knew there wasnt somehing right about his car). I said wow that must be faster than greased lightning. I have a car I wanna race you with. He was like what kind of car I said a 91 vette. He laughed and said bs you dont have a vette my bud stepped in and said he sure does and his engine doesnt look anything like that. He smirked and said he still didnt believe me I said you dont have the same trim as my car either he said nothing closed his hood got in his car, driving away he gave us the finger.
If you do get the bodykit tell people its customized to be a C5 please dont be a poser.
OMG...Guys, look, I wanted pics...that's all, pics. My dad isn't trying to be a "poser". We're not trying to call this car a C5. He wanted something different so he bought the kit. My intent was to maybe have some of the C4 guys help me out with some pictures of some conversions. I wasn't asking for an opinion poll of who thought my dad was an idiot or some poser jerk who couldn't afford the real thing so he "settled" for the cheaper car. If it offends you, fine. Be offended. It seems a little over the top that some guys on here are so defensive. I have enjoyed much help and support from the C5 guys over on my side of the forum and I just figured the same would hold true here but I haven't felt that way since the first couple of replies. To the people who posted pictures and provided helpful info, thank you. To the others who got pissy about it, calm down. It's a body kit for god's sake. Did you ever bother to crucify Reeves Callaway? I think not.
as you can imagine, most sensible corvette owners would never mess with the General's original work of art, no matter what generation it is. pics are hard to come by because, well, its a pretty "rare" conversion. most of us simply don;t care to even see them. most any owner realizes a body kit trashes either the original lines (after all, corvette styling is unique onto itself), or a kit that converts is outright offensive to most of us in any generation.
not saying your dad is a poser. but being "different" in this fashion is so far "different" its just plain wrong. he may not think he's a poser (and i believe that), BUT the world will judge him and it won't matter -- he will be branded as a poser (sorry about that). and its a harsh uphill climb from there on out. most owners will say nothing, try to be polite, and just walk off wondering "what the h*** did i just see", yikes".
i'm just mentioning this as positive advice. bottom line: try to talk him out of it, whatever you do. some day he'll regret it if he moves forward. he can sell the kit. its ALOT of $$ for no performance gain. in the world of sports and performance cars, there's no point in modifying unless its performance-oriented; this is where you get the respect. corvettes don't need "looks" mods -- just about ANY aftermarket trinket will ruin it (notice i said aftermarket -- NOT callaway, etc.). body kits are enjoyed by kids; most adults shun it, some may think it looks kinda interesting but they will not really appreciate it. some will then say, all that matters is what YOU think. thats true, and you'll be left solo in a vacuum telling yourself that all day long.
i hope this get the point across without offending you.

I appreciate your response. The thing is, we bought the car because it was a deal. We bought the 94 convertible and a 2000 convertible in a package deal. I'm not sure why he bought the kit but he did. It's a done deal and it's on the car. The car isn't painted yet but it's close. The intention was to fix the light damage and resell it. That is still the intent, even with the kit on it. He actually has another C5 too. I'm not really offended, just surprised at some of the responses. I never said for anyone to like it or dislike it and I can respect anyone's opinion without it needing to be shoved down my throat. I stated before that I didn't care for it either but I think there will be a certain percentage of people that do. Maybe my dad thought it would resell easier with the update, I don't know. I guess time will tell. Regardless, pictures, if they are out there, was what I wanted just to see what the end result would be and it's hard to tell on a coupe but what I did get to see was fine. Corvetteforum continues to be a very valuable tool for the enthusiast no matter what year or years they prefer. I hope everyone understands and respects that.
since its already a done deal, let's hope your dad can sell it. at this point in the curve of c5 valuation, especially the earlier ones, its going to be a very, very hard sell. who knows, he might get lucky. i'm sorry to say, it will take luck to sell it. he really should have just repaired the C4 as per the original body.
