i have a chute on the car, but i haven't been using it. it's kinda funny, everybody down there has been freaking out that i am not using it. i tell them that the car has 13" rotors, hawk pads, etc etc, and i have no problems stopping in 9 tenths of a mile. after scrubbing off the majority of the speed, i just cruise to the end and turn right. if you notice, i didn't even have to downshift or use the engine to brake.
there is not a requirement in the rule book for me to pull the chute but they've been leaning on me really hard, and they've been saying "you gotta use it so that you know it works in case of an emergency." and mostly just to be the devil's advocate, i say "i haven't pulled the pin on my fire bottle to make sure it's going to work. what's the difference? if i get in trouble, it's either going to work or it isn't."
At the Driver's Meeting for World of Speed at Bonneville, they were
calling on drivers running the short (3 mi) and long (5 & 7 mi) courses
to deploy the chute(s).
A minor nusiance to repack I suppose, but then everybody knows it
is there and that it works.
Man, that brings back memories. I used to run Maxton with my friend on our motorcycles. Haven't been there since May '04. Are the lines at staging still super long? That weekend I only got 4 passes. I had 2 750cc class records that have since fallen, but it was dayum fun!! I think the site still has pics and 190mph+ videos on the bikes. www.dontbescaredracing.com
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the ride Sonny, that was fun from here. That got me so pumped up it will be impossible to get to sleep for a while.
I got to go back and watch it somemore times.

roger, i didn't make it to carlisle this year, but i am hoping to get there next year. i'll take the car, now that i have an enclosed trailer that i can haul it in and then drive it around once i get up there. last time i went to carlisle, i drove the car up, and on the way home a lifter failed and it cost me $600 to rent a u-haul truck and trailer to pull it home with. that was a nightmare! how's your car doing?
i have 3.42 gears, and i'm not sure how long the mile took. probably about 25 seconds? somebody wanna time it? i may be going to richmond on the 27th for some 1/4 mile action instead of going back to maxton on the 28th (looks like i am having family in town that weekend, would not be cool for me to take off). it'll be interesting to see what it'll do in the 1/4. i don't launch really hard cuz i don't want to break anything, but i should make some good mph. i'd like to see at least low 10's or maybe even high 9's if i push it a little. i have long tube headers, 3' exhaust all the way back, and open cut outs, but normally i run through my borlas (which were originally a 2.5 inlet, but have been modified to a 3" inlet). on the dyno the cut out's didn't make any power at all. i just left them open cuz that was the last thing we did wed on the dyno down at CAM before loading it back on the trailer... and cuz i like the way it sounds.
no issues with the grass. a crew of volunteers gets out there a day or two before the event and mows, weed-eats, blows off the track, and patches small holes, kicks rocks around, etc.
