I just got my C4 in April, and it looks to me like this is very good advice. I had an initial safety/change the fluids/etc. piece of work done. Now I'm getting to know the vehicle.
Since I've never owned a Corvette before, I was unprepared for the experience. Best, to my mind, to wait a while and learn the car. Nothing you might do in haste will be better than waiting a piece and knowing what the car needs.
