As bogus said, audio is audio. I have learned a huge amount from the other generations choice of hardware and creative installations. A good example is there is a killer C3 install that I would not have seen if it was buried in a C3 Audio section. I have a C5 but that doesn't matter.

Audio is slow because a lot of people post in the general sections - and as a consequence both weaken the Audio section and get some wildly inaccurate answers in the general sections.

That is so correct. I have seen answers posted re: bose and audio that are just off the wall.

Another thing about Audio, if you all haven't noticed, it's a bit more freeform. It's about style to a degree. We don't have a regular mod over there locking down highjacked threads, mostly, because we are happy for the traffic. At the same time, we don't tolerate spam or totally ignorant posts.

The charm of the Audio section is the interchange among the various generations. It's about the only place where it can happen... wire is wire, positive is red, negative is black and speakers make sound. It's a common thread. And one I do enjoy.

My one pet peeve - folks who post asking questions like "what's the best this, where can I get it the cheapest and why." I mean, come on... do some of this for yourself, damnit! We will guide, but we will not hold your hand. Just a heads up.

The bottom line is thus: The C5 and C6 are easier to upgrade. There are more bose related interface options, the interior is easier to deal with and the doors actually hold speakers... lotsa speakers.

When it comes to C4 audio, the majority of the info is either in the FAQ or available from a quick search.

Finally, audio is audio. There really isn't anything all that different about putting a good system into a C4 or into a Civic. The head units all fit, the amps all fit... the options get harder when you consider subs, top fitment and dealing with the bose. However, all of that has been well documented. Theory is theory... SQ is SQ... and doing it right is doing it right.

It comes down to being patient. I try to answer as many audio related questions as I can, but I am one of a very select group in the C4 area that actually understands audio and it's requirements in the car. Kale (a former C4 owner), -=Jeff=-, deaggie, Teddydog and a couple others that escape me at the moment.

Outside of the C4 gang, there is an entire group of guys who are EXPERTS in this arena. ScottFX, duramax dave, pentavolvo, fej and englandgreen. The bottom line is that audio is NOT all that car specific. What you need to know truely exists - bose options and such - the key is knowing what is new and available.

This is why a C4 specific audio section is a bad idea. All it will do is dilute the Audio section as we know it, and won't do much more than ask the same insipid questions over and over again...

As much as I enjoy this forum, it isnt the best place for opinions on audio and equiptment...some are knowledgeable, some are not. Go to www.elitecaraudio.com, www.carsound.com, www.sounddomain.com and many other car audio related forums for a much bigger group of people if you want to know how good something else is because chances are someone there has used or seen just about everything in the car audio world

Which is why I think it should be put in the C4 section. The posts would get more reads and replies by those that frequent those sections. If someone wants general info there are plenty of places to go. If audio should be left in one area then why does the same not apply for nitrous and scan and tune sections? Experts from the C5 and c6 sections can not see and add their knowledge. Thats OK with me because the answers are more specific and accurate to the model vehicle in question. IMO

Thanks

As Bogus already said, it exists over in the audio/electronics section. Another one here would be redundant.

I have installed systems in my 67 Sting Ray, my 88 35th Anniversary Edition, my 95, my 97 and now my C6...just to name a few, and just to name Corvettes. I was a full time question answerer over in the audio/electronics section a couple of years ago but got tired of answering the same damn questions over and over again, (What's the Big 3? What's the best battery? Can I use my stock Bose HU with aftermarket speakers? Or visaversa?) over time it actually got to the point where I just saved certain posts of mine and pasted them into "new" threads since they were all just asking the same thing. We didn't have stickies then, so I stopped hanging out there due to boredom. The same reason I stopped hanging out in the various "Gen Sections". Back then it was primarily just myself, Kale and 95TrippleBlack helping the folks out on a regular basis.

I tell you this why? Because back then it WAS a sparse section of the Corvette Forum, but now there are quite a few knowledgeable guys over there and the C4, C5 and C6 are pretty much covered. ANYTHING you want to know you can find there. There are FAQ stickies at the top of the section that cover, in good detail, all of those generations, not to mention the higher number of audio geeks hanging out there now who can answer your questions, or track down an answer. So a C4 specific audio forum here would be a waste of time and server space since all the audio guys that know the C4, and car audio in general, are over in the audio/electronics section...or OT, but don't hold that against us. :o

Besides, if you are finding it difficult to do something as easy as locate the audio/electronics section of this forum, then you might not have the mental capacity to do a stereo install on your own…just a thought.

Oh, and remember to put the year of your Vette in your post when you ask a question. Since we are talking C4's here, let us know if it's a 84 to 89 or a 90 to 96 model. There is a reason for that.

Thank you...amen...and pass the ammunition!

I just don't see how starting a C4 specific audio section would be useful.

Sure, Forced induction and tuning need their own generational specific needs, cause what applies to an L98 doesn't to an LT4, LT5, LS1, et.al.

But a good set of speakers is a good set of speakers... and it applies to all sorts of cars, and, as an extention, many types of people can chime in.

You said it, brother.

That repetitive question/answer is why I went and created as many FAQs as I could...

Oh, and you forgot one... which radar detector is best! That one gets everyone all fired up.

There are a couple of good threads about C4 audio if you do a search. But if you have a question it might not get answered

I don't think a C4 specific audio section is really needed BUT, it would make it a lot Easier to find help with specific C4 audio questions.

Also, I think the C4 FAQ post that bogus wrote should be posted in a C4 specific audio section so, new C4 members can find it easier.

I've searched through many a C5 posts looking for help with C4 specific audio topics such as: rear storage compartment sub enclosure pictures, door sill speaker mounting, removing Bose components etc... only to find tons of C5 related posts.

If you hung out around here enough, you would see what I am referring to. Simply put, you don't have enough history or experience to be blasting me on this subject. I can't count the number of times people have asked the same questions... it gets old.

New folks don't seem to understand there is a search function. I created the stickies to hope to get the message that certian things can be answered by a standardized response. Think of the FAQ as a glossary or index.

The search function opens the Forum up. Much like a dictionary. If you don't know how to spell a word, you use a dictionary. If you don't know which oil filter to buy, a quick search will resolve this.

And yes, I do hate bose. I do tell people to junk it, but at the same time, I tell them how to get it serviced, if that is their desire.

I never thought to look in the C4 Tech FAQ for an audio link.

Looking at the C4 Tech FAQ there is a lot of material to scroll down through to find the audio link.

That's another reason to have a specific audio link in the C4 section.

I remember when I first became a member a few years ago, I had a hard time trying to find specific sections. I just happened to stumble upon the Audio/Electronics section while in the search section. Now that I'm more experienced with the Forum, I can find my way easily but, for new members I think it would help them out a lot.

40 to 22 hmm...

I demand a recount. I think some of the C5 guys are voting twice.

I don't see the need, there is not enough traffic in that section to need a 2nd one for one generation.

I would however like to see each topic with the generation listed first though for easier browsing like :

C6: I have money, look at my new speakers!
C5: My latest sub enclosure install
C4: I Love My Bose and rainbows are cool too!
C5: Can I play F&F on my new DVD in dash screen?
C4: Why doesn't my amps work? They are 20 years old and are teh bombzzzZZZz!
C3: 8 Track Help!

That, to me, would be the best upgrade to the audio section, but requires a mod to retitle things and get the users to start being aware that all gens post there.
