Default Heating/Cooling Question

My ongoing heating and cooling issues continue. A few months ago, I thought my heat was not working. I took it to two places and they could not see any problem. One thought that because it was a warm day that the sensors were not going to allow it to throw heat.

Now, with the weather getting cool, I am trying the heat again. Still the same. It gets at the hottest to maybe 70 degrees. Today was warm and it felt like the vent flow was coming through. Since it got to the mid-70's today, I cranked the cool down to 60 to see what would happen. Nothing. It felt warmer, like 80. I'm pretty sure that nothing is clicking on.

The fan works and I can direct air through the upper vents, lower vents, defrost -- they all blow air. Just not hot or cold. Any thoughts on what to do next? I'm not near a vette shop and I'm fearing a trip to the GM dealership.

I have a 93 LT1 with climate control. Any ideas??

Have you checked your thermostat? My '86 had the same problem and I found out the PO removed the thermostat. Put in a 180* unit and have all the heat I need.

I would also check to see if hot water is flowing through the heater core. Warm the car, turn on the heater, and feel the temperature of both heater hoses. If one is cold and one is warm, there's a pretty good chance your heater core is clogged. If both are about the same temperature, no problem.

I have a 180 degree stat. On LT1's if you put in a 160 and don't chip it, it goes crazy. I make plenty of heat. This time of year it runs about 190 and quickly warms up.

I have 2 suggestions.

Check the operation of the blend door by removing the fan speed module controller in the top of the evaporator unit under the hood. A few screws and its out. Look at the door with a flashlight and have someone operate the temp control from 60 thru 90. The door should swing fully both ways.

Run a garden hose thru the heater core. Remove the hoses near the tank. One is on the tank and one is at an interconnect. Run water thru it till it runs clear in both directions. When its all back together, insure the heater hoses are getting as hot as the rest of the other engine hoses.

There is no sensor that would prevent you from getting heat on a warm day with temp control set at 90. You should be able to get heat anytime.
