Seems that I am going to have to install a new window motor on the passenger side of my 95 LT1. I have checked the switch and it is good. The local GM dealer's parts guy tells me I have to order the regulator and motor together at a cost of approx. $300. Do I need to order the motor AND regulator?? I can order the motor by itself from Ecklers at a cost of $79.
Another problem I am having (think this has been addressed on this forum in the past, but I have been unable to locate the post) is getting the door panel off. There seems to be one screw holding the panel on. I can't find it. It is somewhere around the door handle I think. Any help on these issues would be appreciated.
Is replacing the motor a DIY for a non-mechanically inclined person?
On my 93 the passenger side has a metal bracket behind the door panel, you need to pull the power window switch to get to it. Do you know about the screw behind the light and the 1 behind the manual door lock ****?
I have not replaced window motors on the Vette yet, but all the other GM cars I did replace them in were riveted to the regulator. I have no idea what a Vette window mechanism looks like.
Like Kalister said "behind the light and the 1 behind the manual door lock ****." Pop the cover off the courtesy light, and as I recall, the screw was behind the bulb. One of those "easy" jobs once you have done it. Take your time.
For my '88 Vette I replaced the entire regulator; but for the '88 IROC-Z I replaced only the two motors.
In either case you will need to lower the window to about 1/2 way and prop it up or wedge a pair of rubber door stops between glass & frame to hold it when the regulator is removed from the glass.
One issue on my '88 Vette was figuring out how to remove the Al panel covering the lower rear of the door. Once that is solved the regulator should come out (rather) easily.
BTW, the window regulator w/ motor for '84-'96 Vette is available from Contemporary Corvette (link on my site) for $239; RH side P/N is 34240.
you can get new motor on ebay for 49$. you will have to drill or grind off rivets that hold motor to meck.. bolt new motor in. its more work getting it out, than replaceing motor.
If your doing just the motor and if the gear is spring loaded, as it was with my IROC-Z, you will need to drill and bolt the regulator to keep it from "unwinding" quickly when the motor is removed.
For a new vette owner ( just over 1 year ) this is the best place for info. I need to remove passenger side door panel on my 91 to finish my new carpet. Took door panel loose last night at 1130 and found the same thing. Window switch area something still holding on. Will the switch just pop out?
