I'm thinking about taking some video in my 91 C4, was wondering if any of you guys have found a good solid solution for mounting your video cameras inside the car. Haven't seen anything on ebay...only ones that mount to roll cages.
Check out Ram Mounts, you mount it to the windshield with a suction cup and they have adapters for everything including iPod, cameras,GPS units, etc.(hint, google Ram Mounts)
I have a Ram Mount in all three of my cars and the two vettes have harness bars, one with the I/O Port racing mount(also sold by R-D Racing) and the R-D Racing Crossbar has a mount that I added a Ram Mount to for infinite camera angles.
Or you could buy a Chase Cam(again Google is your friend) and mount it anywhere you want. It's the size of a lipstick but you'll need a recording device mounted remotely to capture the video.
I've been thinking about taking some flat stock and welding a tube on, then bolting that down in hatch. I'd use a rubber strap to attach the camera. I have a digital camera that does video and have been thinking of this same question. Anyone bolted anything to the floor in the hatch? This wouldn't take long and would be free.
here are both cars showing the two harness bars I have.
The last three are the ram mount I attached to the R-D Crossbar, but you can mount it with the suction cup also.
I like the crossbar idea, as it seems the camera would stay pretty steady with that on. but they seem pretty pricey...not too willing to spend over $300 for something to hold up a video camera...maybe there is a nice little $50 home depot solution out there

This was shot with the Ram Mount/Crossbar with a Sony DSC-S40 camera(digital)
Same camera, but in the other car with the Exotic Muscle harness bar and I/O Port Racing mount, converted to wmv with Windows Media Encoder(to reduce size and quaility was affected as well)
In both videos you can hear an annoying vibration, that's from the hard mount of the camera to the bar.
In the next video hardly any vibration, but the quality is reduced due to the conversion from tape to digital. These were all done in the six speed car with teh Exotic muscle bar and I/O Port racing mount
Nice, the camera seems very steady, but there is that vibration noise in the first two as mentioned...though the picture is still steady. i think i'll just have to wait for a good deal on ebay for the cross bar...definitely going with a hard drive camcorder though. Looks like you were having a good time in those vids
Interesting......you have the mounting plate going back toward the cargo area.......note on MrMojo's he has the mounting plate going toward the passenger compartment...
I have also have mine toward the passenger compartment, which I think is correct....however if you leave it in all the time it is very close and makes me nervous......I'll have to think about how you mounted it into the cargo compartment...might be better
I bought a windshield mount from member "FastCop" and it is pretty sturdy. I have only tried it in the Explorer so far (snow covered roads) and the pic is pretty good.

That's a good mount, but you should've splurged for the optional matchbook leveling kit, it helps to hold the camera level by shimming the top from the seat.

For safety reasons I didn’t want the mounting bracket protruding into the passenger section of the car, it also gives me better access to the fire extinguisher.
