To all C4 owners who say the only reason they own a C4 is because they can't afford a 5 or 6...

Sell your car, Save up, and buy a 5 or 6, there are people that own and drive C4's because they are what we love, and not because "Its all we can afford"

I don't think affordability is a bad thing. If you want a lot of car for less money then a C4 is a great choice. I like the handling more than I like the looks of the C4. It has many +'s and a couple of -'s. Right now C4's seem like the lowly stepchild of the Corvette family when it comes to getting any respect. I aint driving it for respect. I drive it because it's a fun funkin car. If you want to look like the Jonses by all means jump right into a C5. They're going to be the next generation to take the lowly step child position while others will take the C4 into the classic looking design and style of the Corvette family. Then other Vetters will be dying to get your attention for a wave (). It's just my opinion.........and yes I know about opinions.

I own my C4 because I like the style, look, drive and performance. I also like C5's and will get one soon. Maybe next year. But I plan on keeping my C4 too.

Thats allowed. C5s make a nice DD, kind of like an Allante.

But I keep seeing more and more posts that has "If I had the money I'd have a C5!"

Well it is my opinion that the C4 community doesn't need people like that, like the C4 is a transition vehicle. it isn't.

If you wanted a C5, you should have kept your civic, saved a little more, and got a C5.

I think it's just human nature to want what you think you can't have!! It seems like I more often talk to C-3 people that want a C-2 than C-4 people that want a C-5 or C-6! I've changed many times and may change again. One of the reasons I have stuck with C-4 so long as it is about the limit of my technical knowledge to repair! but even that is slowly changing. I think it's really great some of the young guys [gals] buying C-4's and their enthusiasm for the car!!! I remember being like that when I got my first C-2 in the 60's

Hopefully we're driving the cars we fell in love with, not the cars we could afford.

Since when are the 5's keeping up with the Jones'? C6 is the Jones. I've got that itch for the 6 and everytime I see one I Don't get me wrong the 5's are awesome too and wouldn't mine having one considering I've only driven one twice before. The '99 I drove didn't seem much faster than my '92 but I never hit WOT with it so I don't know if it is or isn't. I love all Vette's and just glad to be apart of the team.

Very true statement. I've met many C4 owners at corvette shows that actually prefer the styling over newer models, and the performance/handling over earlier models.

First:
I bought my 1988 C4 because I loved the early C4 above all other corvettes.

Second:
I decided the later C4 was the way to go because it was so much more refined. Then I started thinking that I needed a C5. So I did a lot of looking around for just the right replacaement.

Third:
I finally remembered what I always wanted in the first place.

Now I am comfortable putting as much money as I want into my old 1988 corvette. That because I still love the early C4 corvette above all other corvettes.

I almost screwed up chasing what I thought was better.
I realize that my car is a much better car than I am a driver, and can be made to compete with anything else on the road.

I would not rag others to leave the ranks, they may come around to loving the C4 as much as I do.

Its is normal to see greener grass on the other side of the fence, and want it.

I am just glad I came full circle before I sold my car.

Why would something like that even upset you? Who cares? Everybody has their own reasons for owning whatever it is that they own. The only possible angle that I can see you're coming from with your small rant is that when someone here says that the C4 is all they could afford, you're referring to the fact that some other people in other corvette generations will stereotype and say that everybody who owns a c4 only owns it because it's all they could afford. If those people are so naive, and to put it bluntly, stupid, to think something like that about those that own C4's, then let them be. Sometimes ignorance and stupidity is just a part of life and can't be changed.

I like my C4 and really don't care if I had a C5 or a C6.

Now what I really want is a solid axle or a C2!

-Small rant of my own in reference to your rant:

The only reason I bought my C4 is because it's all I could afford. I couldn't have afforded a C5 or C6 a couple of years ago when I bought this car. If I could've, I would've bought a C5 or C6 instead. Are you telling me I'm not worthy of a C4 because it's the only one I could have afforded at the time?

There is also a bit of ignorance in what you say. Case in point: I've wanted a Corvette since I was in diapers (I just got out of them a couple of years ago ). I've wanted A CORVETTE. not a C3, C4, C5, etc.... A CORVETTE. The C4, is a Corvette. The C5, is a Corvette. The C6, is a Corvette. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting the best of everything; performance-wise, Corvettes get better from year to year, and body/appearance is purely subjective. Hell, I want the Blue Devil when it finally makes its debut. Are you saying i should sell my Corvette(s) and that I shouldn't buy any other Corvette until I save up and can finally afford to get the Blue Devil? When the C7 makes it's debut, i will want that too... when the C8 makes its debut, I will want that. So when those come out, the only reason I will have a C5 or C6 is because I couldn't afford a C7 or C8. I'm driving a Corvette, I don't care what generation it is, if it's all I can afford, then so be it.

So basicly you have no opinion, you just want whatever is newest... got it.

MEKANIC, I'm just poking at you. I own a C4 because I love it. I have no interest in any other at this moment. I think it is so cool and all I want is to make it cleaner, faster, and all mine. The last on is complete. I'm working on the first one everyday the birds come out. Faster will come as needed but for now....I'm a happy camper or should I say a C4'er.

No, he has an opinion and stated it quite clearly. To restate, he said he wanted a CORVETTE, didn't care what gen it was, and bought what he could afford - a C4.

You hardly know who I am or what I mean.

Btw, I also wanted a C1 and C2, but I couldn't afford those either.

Hey Mekanic I'm guilty of what you're talking about too. I don't like the C5's, but if I could afford a C2, C3 or a C6 I would have one or even better all three. So I went to the next best thing for now a C4. I've always loved the later C4's and I'm sure I'll have mine for a good long time. I may never get rid of it who knows only time will tell so I just can't bring myself to sell it. I'll just have to be patient and keep saving.

P.S. Oh I almost forgot, I still have my Civic too.
