Looks a lot like the results from wire wheel cleaner or air conditioning condenser cleaner.
Does it make a lot of white foam? Burn like the devil if you have an open wound?
If the answers to the above are yes, chances are it's hydroflouric acid. Go to a detailing supply house and it's ~ 20.00 a gallon.

No elbow grease on the rear suspension......a little on the front where the years of chasis grease has caked on!...and None on the Plenum!!!!

Vanduker has it. Thats got to be what that is. And as long as you use it on the suspension or the intake it should work good. I'd be careful on using it on the calipers, it is acid.
Notice their claim on the distributor cover. If I had to guess, they used it on that too, but its such a lower grade of aluminum that it does that to it.
You should always test this stuff in a small area before coating the whole thing. I turned a whole intake manifold that cast iron color once (not vette) and had to break out the wire brushes and electric drill and do the whole thing.
