Default Engine temp.

Just a quick question, I have an 89 coupe, and while running the ac yesterday the engine temperture got up 220 degrees. Is there a problem or is this normal, and the cooling fan was on.

If it was in the 90's and you were stuck in traffic, yeah, you'll see the temp around 220 with the a/c on.

That certainly could be considered normal, but mine does NOT get anywhere near that hot since I pulled the rad and cleaned all the crud out of the fins, particularly with the a/c (and therefore both fans) on.

Thats about normal, mine goes to about 230 then I turn the a/c on so the fans start and cools the engine

I'm usually at 205 to 212 in traffic (with the a/c on) and since I've owned it since new, I can say that's how it was when I bought it. Assuming yours isn't getting above 220, I wouldn't sweat it. Otherwise, put a manifold gage set on it and make sure the high side pressure is averaging around 200 to 230 psi. If it's above that, some junk maybe restricting flow through the orifice - especially if nothing has ever been done to it - and that creates heat.
