I have another question, on my "89", the ses light is on. The code was a code 36. Anybody shed some light on this ? My repair manual says it is a ignition error or something with the transmission. Any place in particular to look ?
You need a different manual. What manual are you using?
Code 36 is the MAF burnoff relay malfunction. You need to check the relay, connection, and wiring. It and the MAF power relay are located above and behind the battery. The link below should help find the problem. Thank AGENT 86 for it.

There are actually 2 maf relays. They are about $15.00 each. They are mounted as one of the posters said behind the battery right next to one another.I replaced one. When that proved not to be the one I switched them and fixed the problem. It might not be a bad idea to replace both beings it is a cheap fix. The ses light did not stop until after a couple 2 or 3 times of starting the engine.
You guys are the best, changed both relays, fixed my problem. Thank you for all your help. I'm sure I'll be talking to you again real soon, my vette is not in the best of shape, but it's getting there !!!!!
No problem. You can disconnect the neg cable on the battery for >15 seconds and it will clear any stored codes. You can also pull the ECM fuse on the fuse panel to clear codes.
Had the same thing on my 89. Replaced the two sensors. I wished I had done that for $20.00 a piece instead of the MAF at $165.00.
No problems since then. I came across a post earlier from someone who say's they have to change the sensors evry couple of years. Just have to see.
