Fellas,
I really like the look of a full wheel well, especially the front. I placed 1 inch aluminum wheels spacers on my fronts and believe it or not, it is a very sublte difference, but just the look I was going for. It is almost impossible to visibly tell that the front wheels are out just a little more than the back. I'm wondering if anyone else has used wheel spacers, and if so, did you have to have the wheels reballanced with the spacers attached to the wheels? I now experience a slight shimmy at about 73 mph, nothing crazy, but noticable. Yeah, I am a purist, but I feel that the designers just dropped the ball a little bit with the front fender overhang on the C4, just my opinion.
Seriously though, it IS very subtle, actually perfectly flush with the fender overhang now. I really love the look, but if I can't correct for that slight shimmy at 75 or so mph, I'm afraid I'll have to return to the original config. Bummer! Funny I DO own a widetrack Grand Prix, maybe I've been bitten by the "widetrack" bug.

I miss my '66 GTO, the original Pontiac Wide-Track. I applaud your innovation, let us know how it turns out.
if its a spacer, NOT SAFE! thats too big of a size for a spacer in my opinion. thats probably your shimmy. you cant balance spacers, they SHOULD be balanced if machined properly. metal doesnt have light points like a tire does
I haven't owned that GTO in more than 28 years - but it still shows up in my dreams now and then. It had a 400ci Pontiac and the factory Tri-Power attached to a THM400. It had a 456 Posi Rear End. It was quick. It was the 2nd car I ever owned, I was 16. I loved that car.

Cheaper spacers are hard to balance. More expensive ones that are "hubcentric" are machined from the center out and are more precisely balanced. I used a 30mm on the rears of the '92, and had a cheaper set first. The rear had a balance issue at about 60-65 mph. I bought a good, hubcentric set and had no balance issues at 80+...smooth as glass.
Ya gets what ya pays for...
I can't remember if I got them from Hubcentrics or not. I have put Hubcentrics on other vehicles. YES, they are actually wheel adapters, not spacers. They are firmly attached to my hub, NOT just floating there and held on by the wheel lugs. I just assumed they would be perfectly machined and symetricly balanced. Silly me.
