The Horror - Vette In A Rainstorm!
My fiance and I took a ride from Phoenix up to Pinetop about a month ago for our first road trip in the Vette. We hit the mountain roads up by the Mogollon Rim (about 5000' elevation) and end up driving into a wicked thunderstorm. I had read a few posts here before with owners saying they never drive in the rain so I was feeling the scorn of Vette owners everywhere as I blasted through the deluge. Another nice feature was that the wipers were totally shot; as soon as I turned them on the wiper strips flew off, literally within 5 seconds of wiper operation! Hopefully I haven't violated any code of conduct for Vette owners but sometimes you just have no choice! Any of you guys have any solid rain stories with the Corvette? Mine handled it great, with no leaks!!

A few other Corvette owners felt the same way.

I drive mine in the rain all the time. Since I've gotten rid of the goodyears I can actually go faster than 55 on the highway too!
Back in 97 when my Dad had the car, we were cruising back from Chattanogga TN to Louisiana...we hit a hard thunderstorm. Any time I drove faster than 50-55 on the Goodyear run-flats the car would just lift off of the ground. Scariest time ever in a car. Even with the cheap ole Kuhmos I have now I don't hydroplan at 80...hell I've even hit triple digits while cruising with a C6 and it felt solid to the ground with some water on the ground...

If you have an Astro top, going in heavy rain on the freeway is very interesting. The wind causes the top to lift somewhat in the middle of the front edge, letting the rain inside the car. The Astro tops have a cheap plastic frame that bends (or breaks) too easily.
