Default Emblem replacement

Hi all, I have an 88 that needs the front, gas door and rear "Corvette word" replaced. I purchased the parts this weekend at Funfest and want to do this in the next couple of days.

Question is, how do I remove the one from the hood (what size wrench etc) and how do I remove the word from the rear?

Thanks

BigLou

One technique is to use some wd-40 and some monafilm fishing line and just "work it off easily" make sure to do it carefully. wash off the wd-40.

wd40 is used when racing all the time to take melted rubber off the paint.

I just replaced my Nose Emblem 3 days ago. Using a bladed screwdriver and a rag, you can slowly pry if off. Use the rag under the screwdriver so you don't scratch the paint. Mine came off fairly easy after working it from both sides. Some of the original double sided tape remained on the hood - which was fine as it provided a backing for the adhesive. I used a dollop of Epoxy to hold the new emblem in place.

Both methods work but a screwdriver is dangerous, it can go through the cloth or slip scratching your paint. Fishing line won't do that.

Use a heavy duty rag, a piece of leather, a section of a Clorox bottle, etc. The point to the exercise is that you protect the paint from the prying tool you use. Not that hard to do.

Diff years must be diff?? My '90 has 10mm nuts in the front inside the hood brace & NO foam tape on the front. Rear has foam tape & 2 press on retainers for the back word. Then foam tape does require something like the fishing line. The WD or similar helps lube during the cut.

I agree, the front one should have a couple of 10mm nuts holding it down. I wouldn't pry on it without checking it first for nuts. The rear emblem on the bumper is just held on with a 3M type emblem tape. Using fishing line sounds like a good idea. I think I was able to pull mine off while using a plastic flat tool or something. It's been awhile.

When I replaced the CORVETTE emblem above the license plate, I tested the aligning "pins" to ensure they offered proper alignment. The replacement part pins did not align with the OEM bumper holes. This caused the emblem to twist or "wave". I had noticed this on some of the early C4's at gatherings. My remedy was to trim off some of the pin to allow the emblem to lay out flat and straight. Then the backing was removed from the double sided sticky and attached to the bumper.

Almost four years later the emblem is still straight.

Just replaced a side hood emblem on my 96. It worked great and you don't need to worry about scratching the paint.

No need to replace the Corvette on the back, I just repainted mine and it looks good. I used a semi-gloss black made for plastics. Thats the bad part about the other emblems, they're not paintable like older ones.
