Default Ignition Timing

Quick question, I'm going to check my timing tomorrow, if I have to make adjustments, I know you have to put the system in bypass. Can anyone tell me how to put in bypass ? Oh by the way it's a 1989 coupe.

should be a connector to the right of the distributor (possibly taped to a harness) with a tan/black stripe wire on one side and a pink (I think) wire out of the other side. this is the one to disconnect. I just finished washing my hands from doing the same thing (mine included wires, plugs, cap..........etc, etc, etc........). Good luck with it.

Also, once you are done and get it connected back together.......you will have a code to be cleared.

My EST bypass connector is beside my brake booster. Just unplug it to check and adjust timing. When finished, plug it back together and remove neg battery cable for a few seconds, to clear the code.

Not to flog a dead horse, but Greg and Agent86 are both correct. Disconnect is between the booster and the distributor. There should be a similar connector on the other side of the booster that when disconnected will clear codes.

Hey Muffin......
Know what the color of the wires on that connector are?
I assume this should be done with key turned off/out of ignition?
How long should it be disconnected?

I would rather do it this way than lose the radio presets.
Good info for all!
