Default lighted rearview mirror

I want to install a lighted rearview mirror in place of the standard one in there now. I am told that the wires to hook it up to are already in the header across the top. Is this true? The plug is supposed to be in there somewhere. Anyone ever done this? 1985 Coupe.

I was told this too but when I went to install the mirror on my '85 there were no connectors. I just went ahead and figured out what wires did what, then cut the connectors off the mirror wiring, added the same color wire long enough to run it down the pass. side A pillar then hooked the wires where they needed to go. Works like a charm. If you do find connectors, let me know.

Sometimes a car manufacturer will use one wiring harness for all models, regardless of what options your car has. I found this to be true when I owned a Limousine service. I went to install the motor that pulls the trunk down and right there, behind the carpet, was the plug to do so, even though the car did not come from the factory with the trunk motor. Bless those folks at Lincoln.

I think it's 86 and up, that had lighted mirror option. 84 and 85 will have to run new wires.

Thank you. I believe you answered my question. If it wasn't an option in 85, then I don't want to alter anything.

My '85 didn't originally have anything up in the header for power to a mirror, either.

For the Mirror I installed (one of the auto dimming ones - buy them all day long really cheap on Ebay - used GM) I had to run a power (switched) line up from the back of the fuse box on the passenger side.

That new switched power line came in handy also for powering the radar detector I mounted up there in front of the r/v mirror...

The wire powering the Light in the passenger side sun visor, if I remember correctly, was hot all the time - key on or off... that Might be something I changed from original right after I bought the car - I forget...

BTW - I also added a lighted Drivers side sun visor (I had ordered a Pass. side and the drivers side shipped by mistake - I used it..). That wire I tapped into the Pass. side, already there.
