I have 2 1988 corvettes. One is an auto and the other is the 4+3. The auto will show I have averaged 27+ on the highway but when I feel it up and check it manually I will show 24+. The lower the average the closer it gets. Say at 19 I will get 18.
On the 4+3, it seems to be a bit closer. It seems to be 1 to 1.5 off at higher averages.
I always try to fill it up the same each time I fill up. I usually fill up at the same Sunoco station and force more until it is good and full. I can see getting a slight variation but 3+ mpg is way too much. Have any of you checked yours to see how accurate is?
My jeep grand cherokee is very close when I check it. Just curious.

As long as you know how far off it is, I'd guess your readings will still be consistent and hence useful for adjusting your driving style, speed, etc. when good economy is desired.
Hello,
Mine is pretty close at around 16-18 mpg. Now the best it ever read was about 23 mpg or so(I drive a little spirited). I have actually gotten about 24 mpg when it read around 23-23.3 mpg. I have only let it check thru about 700 miles. I do think when I 'lean-on-it' a little, It says I'm screwing-up the mpg. I know I am, I don't think as bad as the computer says. My fill-up figures says, I am not as bad as the computer. It is pretty dang close though.
