What Manual's are best for the shadetree mechanic?
I'd like to get your input on what auto manual is the best for the shadetree mechanic and a C4? While I'm very comfortable working on my old 1969 Cougar and it's small block ford it's because I understand how those systems work and are integrated, but on my C4 it's a whole 'nother level to say the least. I'd like to start working on it myself without the old 'one step forward and two steps back' syndrome so I'm thinking of buying the GM shop manuals or a Chilton's, your opinions? Thanks a bunch! :seeya

Bought the GM Shop Manual's yesterday, thanks for the quick responses! BTW, was able to change the back brakes and rotors without mucking anything important up so maybe there is hope for me and the C4 living a long and happy life together afterall! :D

Good choice on the shop manual, however, I suggest you also buy a Chiltons or a Haynes. I found that for more detail the shop manual can't be beat, but the others can be much more user friendly for a lot of simple jobs. The Chiltons and Haynes are written more for the back yarder, whereas the shop manual is written for a professional machanic with all the factory tools!
