Hello Everyone. I was curious to know if faulty injectors can be the cause of knock and ping? what type of performance do you actually lose with bad injectors. Also i was told that i need a set of injectors and they quoted me $1400.00. Is this a good price?? Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.
a chevy dealership quoted me $1100 for mine last summer, and i think that is high. i think what you'll hear here is that $1400 is too much.
my car would stutter and stall when fully warm at idle because of a faulty injector. just had them all replaced rather than hunting down the culprit. it did have a terrible knocking noise as well.
You can get a new set for $250 or so, and they arent that bad to install, certainly not enough to charge as much labor as they are charging you.
Generally they fail open, so the symptom would be running rich, fuel smells in the exhaust, hard starts when engine is hot, bad mileage and generally rough running. A knock or ping makes me think something else is the culprit, like the wrong type of fuel used, or wrong spark plugs, or the engine is too hot, for example.
