I don't think I can put it in words but I just really like the C4 better (looks and wrap around interior). My wife has been on me for the last year to upgrade to a C5, but I don't have space for both.
The size. The c5 has a huuge ***, and the interior just feels too much like a normal car. I like the c4 because it feels like a true sports car. The way you wear the seats, the way theres no extra room anywhere. Plus, I love the subdued look of the curves. (Kind of like a civilized c3)
I can't really say I like the C4 better than any other generation..But I got mine new back in '93. I have modded it over the years, just to keep it interesting. I really like it now..Much quicker than a C5 or C6
If you remember the C1,2,and early C3 interiors you remember certain traits. The door *****, the console, the door panels and the unique looks of each. The C4 builders put all that tradition into the C4 in a Modern way.The feel when you enter. the way you sit. The C5 is a beautiful car and more powerful then most older models, but the interior lacks in special Corvette feel of past models. Of course you can tell its still a corvette but it rides like a sedan and the interior is to much sedan like. This of course is one mans opinion.
The C4 represents a better value, is cheaper to maintain and insure, and has little depreciation. Just in my own particular situation, it makes more financial sense. C5's and C6's continue the evolutionary progress as making the Corvette the best high performance sports car for the money anywhere. Someday I may own one of these fine C5 or C6 Corvettes too.
I had an C4 and now have a C5, I really liked my 86, the LCD dash and the feel was cool, however once I drove the C5 I feel in love. I like the large ***.
I like all Corvettes but I grew up with the C4 and it has always been the car I wanted to own. I like the way if looks, feels and rides. Maybe it still brings back memories from the past but I love having the car I always wanted. I have driven C5s and they are great cars but if I ever buy another I will hold out for a C6.

Simple:
I initially bought a C5 'vert. After two years of autocrossing, I started HDPE's. Which doesn't really fly in a 'vert. So I bought a C4 coupe as my DD/track toy. I keep the C5 as my weekend toy and my autocross car.
initially I went c4 for the value and its bang for the buck but now days my reasons for not looking into c5's and staying with the c4 is the tremendous amount of time and research I've spent learning about the car, which can really have alot of power when dealing with older used cars and I really could not imagine starting that over even if someone offered me c5 in an even trade for my c4.
I grew up watching the C3's........can't afford a nice one. The C4's grew on me to the point that I REALLY love the looks, the ride and the overall feel of them. Love the digi dash. They have a harsher ride than the C5 ( more of a "hotrod" ride to them (which I truly love)).
I think I will always like the C4 over the C5 for those reasons. Kind of funny though, I was looking at a C5 earlier today while cruising around (75 degrees.....top down........somewhat spirited driving (can't ask for more on a Saturday afternoon in Texas)) and the strangest thing happened.........I found myself looking at the assend of the C5 and finally started appreciating it (still a bit large in my opinion.....but very pretty nonetheless). Didn't think I would EVER feel that way about the C5's.
I love all corvettes.
I own the early C4 because it is the corvette that I loved the most when I was at the age to have the most passion for corvettes.
The C4 came out in 1984, I was in the navy.
Those early C4s were always the car I wanted even more than the C3which I grew up loving.
I still feel the thrill and passion; of a time, when I was a younger man.
It is enough for me.
It doesn't matter how wonderful they make the newer vettes, I don't think I have the capacity to love a car again, the way the C4 made filled me with passion.
Also:
I can feel the road in my 1988 corvette, I can feel what the car is doing.
I do not get the feedback from the C5.
Feels more like I am driving in a vacume it is so smooth.
The C5 doesn't talk to me to let me know how it's doing.
I know when I'm pushing my C4 to the limit, and everything in between.
