so i just recently got my 1990 vette from family friend, but she left old gas in there for months. now i need to take the gas out and most likely change the fuel pump. what would be easiest way to remove gas(full tank) and where is the fuel pump located? thanks everyone!
i wish.. the car wont run.. yeah maybe 6 months. i have sprayed that starter fluid and car will run for about 3 seconds. so i know the gas is all messed up.
For 6 months I wouldn't worry to much with the gas. How much is in the tank?
I saw where the engine would run when spraying startin fluid in the intake. I'm thinking you have a fuel delivery problem. Can you hear the fuel pump humm when you turn the key to the on position?
Have you checked fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge? You can also depress the schrader valve on the left side of the fuel rail. Fuel should come out under pressure after the fuel pump has primed. Lots of steps we can take to narrow it down.
Before you get carried away and empty the fuel. Start with basics.
1) are your getting spark?
2) check the schrader valve (looks like a tire air valve on the fuel rail). Turn on the key without starting the car. Then use a screw driver or something and press on the center of the schrader valve. If fuel flows out with pressure then you have fuel.
3) are you getting any codes?
You need to get some form of manual....a cheap Hayes or $$ Helms to help you figure out what you are working with. The best is the Helms.
The fuel pump is easy to replace. Remove the cas cap door (4 screws) and you will see eight bolts. Remove the 8 bolts and the fuel pump comes out from the top...very easy.
