Default Pke Help!!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!

My original remote broke. Don't ask, my oldest son borrowed the car when he was in town. Any way I go a remote from a guy parting out a 96. The case was broken and he could not find a battery to snap into it, so he gave it to me. I took the back and insides of his remote, a new battery and the front (button side) of the old case and made a "good" remote. I went through the programming steps several times but on the last step where the you bring the "new" remote into range and the PKE lights stop flashing, mine never stops flashing. Now when I walk away from the car when it is not locked the PKE detects the remote moving away and locks the doors and sounds the horn. When I come back up to the car it does not unlock nor do the buttons on the remote do any thing, the doors do not unlock nor does the hatch release.
Is this "new" remote bad or am I doing something wrong in the programming?

Default remote

I tried those steps and my remote does not work either. I press the trip/odo, trip, and fuel and nothing flashes.

What is suppost to flash?
When I open the door my security light flashes thats about it? and I put a new battery on the remote.

PKE light is supposed to flash then stay steady after turning key off. Mabey your bulb is burned out or PKE unit is bad. Do you have a factory service manual it has the trouble shooting steps in it....

I am having the same problem...PKE light does not flash. We found that it is supposed to light up when you turn your key on, which mine doesnt, so am thinking it is either disconnected by prior owner, or the sending unit is bad. Does yours lite up on your panel when you turn the key on and all your indicator lights come on? If not, perhaps that is your problem as well.

The PKE light is in the lower left hand corner of the DIC.

Did you check your PKE fuse? That is the first thing in the FSM.

Redeasysport, Here are the steps I followed, they are the ones listed in the manual:
1. Place transmitter and any optional transmitter 10 feet or more away from the car.

2. Turn the ignition key to the ON position.

3. Push the TRIP/ODO button on the DIC twice.

4. Within 5 Seconds, push and hold the FUEL/INFO button on the DIC until the PKE light on the DIC comes on and stays on.
(My PKE light does stay on.)

5. Turn the ignition to the OFF position, but leave the key in the ignition. The PKE light will come on and begin flashing.
(My PKE light flashes)

6. Bring one transmitter into range. When the system recognizes the transmitter, the PKE light will stay on.
(MY PKE light never stops flashing)

My FSM says on step 3 to push it once then push and hold for 5 sec. but it appears you may have it.

Get a new battery for your Fob it may not be getting recognized in step 6 but even if it does not stop flashing turn the key off and walk away. Come back and push the door button on to see if you may have it turned off(disabled). If you push and hold it for 10-15 sec. on it should cycle the locks on & off which is either enabling or disabling the PKE depending on the state it is in. If it does not work get a new battery and try again.

Clean the contact points in the Fob then and give it another try as I said above. Others have reported the light does not stop flashing( or start for that matter) but the programming worked. If it does not you will have to follow the diagnostics in the FSM to troubleshoot it. Good Luck.

Default Probably a stupid thing to say but . . .

Did you hold the fob close to your ear and shake it and, if so, do you hear a "rattle" sound?

You should hear one that is the sleep mode wake up activator sound. Try banging it in your hand to wake it up.

I cleaned the contacts with alcohol and even popped of the cover for the rattle ball on the cb, the ball was free in the cavity. I have tried tapping it on my hand and even on the workbench. Can't get it to rattle at all. Is there some other way to wake it up or reset it?

Rattle ball was loose when open but is stuck when closed is that what you are saying. You should hear that it makes contact and wakes up the Fob.

Thats what it appears to be. When I pop the cover off the ball, it is not stuck. When I snap the ball cover back on it seems to be "captive" or stuck, like cavity is too small for the ball. Does not make any difference if the battery in in or not.

Just a WAG here, but I noticed that you took two PKE's to make one. Not being an expert here, but I can envision a whole plethora of problems. GM may have more than one vendor for the PKE's and there may not have been close "specs" on the size of the ball the different manufacturers used. Maybe one vendor with loose specs on the ball or the cavity. Possibly a difference in the plastic molding machine that formed the cases.

Hope things work out for you.

I took the back and insides from the one I recently received and the front cover (button side) of the original and put it together like that. No I did not mix and match parts on the cb.
