Wow, I never thought it would be such a big deal! If it were my car, I might have kept the hashes but ditched those black wheels for something with a little sparkle. Guess I'd have to ride around in a kevlar suit though to keep the purists from burning me at the stake

The 003 car in 1964 Sebring trim is seemingly the basis for the 96 car's paint scheme. No hash marks.
It would appear that there is really no historical racing significance to the fender hash marks, except for being original equipment on the 96 cars.
They seem to have first appeared on the 004 car after a restoration done in the 1980s.

Interestingly the cobra's lateral hood/fender stripe kind of resembles hash marks when viewed from the side

I am **** when it comes to correct original BUT
His car His money His taste.
He kinda likes the look without the red HASH !!!!!!
He's the guy that looks at it EVERYDAY !!
I suggest he buys new ones from GM now.

My personal opinion that blue and red combo maybe rare, maybe has lotsa heritage, but it is NOT pretty by comparison to other color combos.
Ask 100 people on the street what looks best. My bet is the vast majority would say NO HASH MARKS !!!!
