Default '82 VS.'84 engine problems

Hello everyone,
I'm considering buying an '84.At one time I had an '82,and there were some issues with the crossfire that I spent tons of money trying to correct.
I've read that the '84 engine is basically the same as the '82,but wonder if any upgrades make it a much better engine. If you have experience with '82's and '84's would you please give me your thoughts?
Thanks.

I do not believe there is a bit of difference in the 82 & 84 crossfire engines.

My 84 crossfire TBI was nothing but probs, TPS, EGR, Knock Module, Knock Sensor, MAP, ECM, and more. Edelbrock carburetor was the fix.

My brothers 84 w/125,000 miles (2x mine), w/ half the repairs runs like a raped ape.
So you have a 50/50 chance to get a good one I guess

I had an 82 that was aPITA! my 84 runs GREAT. THe pervious owner had issues that made him sell the car. A new fuel pump cured all issues thanks to the fine folks here on the cf! My 84 is my daily driver and is great!!! Id buy it again in a second!

Ive had my 84 for 21 years,no problems.There was a minor HP bump between 82-84 from 200 to 205 I think.

Fuel pressure and worn TB shafts are the biggest issues. Once you can dial in the TBs the rest of it seems to fall in to place and is basic troubleshooting using the Helms manual.

I'm no expert, but I know someone with an 84, it's been good to him. But why buy an 84? If you go with an L98, you have lots more parts options. And if it's HP you want... go with an LTx. Chances are, you could get a nice LT1 car for not much more than an L98, or L83 for that matter.
