Makes me think ... I'm always doing a gradual "easing in" of the gear ... I just let er' up while I'm revving it ...it's that simple ? The tranny will be OK ... I
I was trained on a "tach-less" tranny, so I go by ear, and 1500-2000 is what I wind up shifting at ... old habits are hard to break ... but it does explain the lack of "performance-driving" on my part :)
1-2-3-4 always at the track.
Sometimes on the street I might skip a gear depending on where I'm at.
I've gone 1-4 on purpose(cags is disabled) I've gone 2-5, 3-5, all depends.
Most here have talked about shifting while racing, but if you're talking about around town - just cruising - no showing off (well, you're always showing off in a Vette - even if you're standing still!)
I do a lot of 1, 2OD, 4OD. As I ease into the next gear, the RPMs are usually drop to around 800-900 with engagement.
I've been in traffic where I might pull it out of OD and do a 2, 4OD shift. As I write this, I realize I don't use 3rd much at all....
My main purpose here is to get into a low RPM 4OD as quickly as possible. Getting 20+ MPG while holding back the power until I want it is a nice feeling.
That's good MPG ... despite my "low rpm" shift, I'm nowheres near that number ... but I take great comfort as it's a Vette, not a Honda Civic .. BIG difference where it counts !
