Hey guys, I am having difficulty determining what is causing my problem so here it is any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I had my window down yesterday riding, got to my destination and the window would roll down but NOT up. I checked the other window it was working fine so that ruled out the easy fix of a fuse unfortunately. I took the door panel off to check out if the motor was bad and I was unable to continue because I had something come up. So any suggestions on the best way of getting to that motor or perhaps it may be the switch on the console? I dont know I am goin to mess with it again tom probably so thanks for the input that may make this a little bit easier This is a 89 vette.
Same problem I had on my 93. In my case, it was the window switch, also the guide at the front of the window was broken, but the main problem was the switch. I was able to carefully clean it and reassemble, problem solved.
Sounds like a switch problem. The switch alternates + and -, to make the motor change direction. You can temporarily add power (at the motor with connector removed) to get the window back up, until you fix the problem with the switch. http://members.shaw.ca/agent86/Power...Electrical.pdf
Thanks for all the helpful advice guys. I have determined that it is actually both (the switch and the motor) go figure, anyway do any of you have experience with installing a window motor because it looks like it going to be quite a chore getting to it Thanks again.
If its like the `85, its not that big of a deal. Notice that I didnt say it was like going to a carnival or falling off of a log, but its doable. Theres nothing technically challenging about it, there is just a lot of crap that has to be pulled out of the way and put back. Other than that its pretty self-evident.
I got my motors at www.1aauto.com, lifetime warranty, good price. Apparently the motor changed after the 85 model year.
Unless its really different than mine, you will be removing the whole window regulator assembly. You have to drill out the rivets from the regulator to remove the motor and replace with nuts and bolts. Mark the postion of all the stuff as it comes apart, so you can return the regulator assembly to its former alignment/position, else the window wont fit right after. No biggie, but have some time on hand when you get started.
Might as well change the ribbon while you are in there too. You'd hate to have that break the week after and have to open it up again.
