Default Powdercoat headers?

just got a new set of headers and i wanna either wrap them or coat them or something.

would powdercoating be strong enough? does it hold heat well or will it chip/crack off?

Powder coated paint would turn to crap in no time, unless the powder was made of ceramic.

Yep, Jet Hot or similar ceramic coating in & out is the only way to go with headers...

Powdercoating is cured in a 450 degree oven. The headers will easily exceed that temp so the chances are good that the heat will cause flaking of the coating.

You should talk with a powdercoater to see if there are hi-temp coatings that will work. But I 'm betting that a ceramic coating like Jet-Hot will be your best alternative outside of a high-heat paint.

And don't use a header wrap. The material will hold condensation after the headers cool down and you WILL get rust.

I understand that a ceramic is available for the powder coat guns like eastwood and other home type guns. I have seen pictures of a set a guy did for a V-6 Mgb they looked good and he said he had done them himself, I think just on the out side though.

The powder coater will tell you that they have a high heat coating suitable for headers. I tried it on one set and it didn't hold up well at all. I use Ceramic coating on all of my headers/sidepipes now with good results. The silver color polished for my combo cost about $450 but in Ceramic black it is only about $300. For just headers the cost would be about half. This is a good investment to protect your headers.

And if your talking around $200ish it will be a deal. You will spend around $80 just to wrap them
