so i have had trouble with my pop up headlights and i found out whats wrong its not bushings or gears but this part
the silver part the shaft is spinning inside its housing so when it trys to move the headlights it just sits there and the gear and the housing moves around the shaft!!! anyone know how to fix this iv been trying to fix it for over 8 months now and just figured out whats causing it but have no idea how to fix it!!!
I live in FW and I put gears and bushings in my 95 . I will be in town soon if you don't get some help I can look at it.
Does the manual **** move the light's ?
I put the bronze gear in mine cause someone said that very thing would happen eventually.

Can you see anyplace that a split pin or rolled pin is installed ?? Has it sheared ??
I'm not familiar with those parts, but it looks like you could drill it and install a split/rolled pin, to stop the spinning.

Can't help with your immediate problem. For the future and for other C4 owners though do this comparison.
On you next trip to the auto parts store grab 2 different replacement headlights off the shelf. One plastic, the other glass. Lift one with each hand and feel the amazing difference in weight.
Replace your glass bulbs with the plastic ones. This will prevent future problems with your headlight motors in the future.

When I went through the headlight motors on my car I found it odd the headlights were plastic until I figured the light weight would put less wear on the assembly.In the picture from the OP there should be a pin in the shaft that keeps the gear from spinning on the shaft.
