I bought an 86 with no manual. The antitheft keeps going off.
I would like to disable it but do not know the location in the car, can anyone help me know where to look?
I just bought a new '86 manual, and all it really says is that to arm the system, lock the doors, to unarm it, unlock the doors with the key, or start the car with your VATS key. The manual doesn't specifically troubleshoot anything like it 'going off', and doesn't say where the 'hardware' is. Can you disarm the system with your key? Is anything specific making it go off, or is just going off at random? I do not believe there is any motion sensors like in my Audi, so this could be yet another issue with the door ajar switches (see my thread-'interior lights staying on'). If the doors are locked and the system is armed, and if the door ajar switch is failing, making the car think the doors are open, then maybe that is what is setting off the alarm. Can you just leave it unlocked for now, an not arm the system?
Thank you for taking the time to help. After reading your response and some info. the I found on google I found out that if you don`t turn the key as far as possible to the left before pulling the key it will go off when just opening the door. This seems to have helped at least for now. Thanks again.
Thanks, I found out that the drivers side lock was not turned all the way before pulling the key. If I do that it seems to work OK, maybe it is worn some. Thanks again
