For our 92, LT1, I use 10-30 Mobil1 (Amsoil and Royal Purple are excellent, also). It gets hot here in Kansas, and no issues. I use Wix filters, and they are amongst the best you can buy.
In my racer, the engine builder told me to use 10-30. So far I've been using 10-30 Mobil1. With Wix racing filters.
I always change the oil filter with every oil change.
the only time in 30 years of driving i've ever changed the oil filter with every oil change was when i had my engine rebuilt in my current vette; 3 times in a little over 1,000 miles.
other than that, i vehemently disagree on the need to do it. never a problem. i loathe the idea if pissing even an extra penny on cars if it can be avoided.
as for synthetic oil in a gen I or II chebby engine for most of us, its a double-time waste of $$.

Unless *any* car I own makes 400+ hp, then I will never put synthetic in it. Even then, only if the motor was new and run hard would I put synthetic in it.
In the synthetic guys eyes:
Castrol: crapstrol
Penzoil: Pissoil
Exxon: stinkson
Valvoline: Sh**oline
Quakerstate:Fakerstate
Mobil 1 synthetic: Perfect(that is for die hard synthetic guys)
Having never seen Barney P1$$ , got me on that one...it is purple for sure...Redline is excellent oil..rated higher even than Amsoil,,..and the cost reflects that too. I ran a 92 Cavalier 2.2L 447,000 miles before the tranny died..engine stillran strong

i laugh at and pity the fools who have this silly schoolgirl notion that "nothing is too much for my baby". that's part of that goofball "corvette queer" mentality you'll find here

I have never disliked you. I just like kidding around. Essentially, if I didn't like you, I would not make the comments about you putting down on the C4. Im just being a smart ***.
On another note, I am still confused as to why people pay premium dollar for Bosch +4 spark plugs and expect gains. They make the car run like ****. Ask me how I know.
I have YET to find a "tune up part" that is twice the price of stock better in noticable performance or life of the cars internals. Im not saying get some pos cheap oil filter but I wouldn't pay top dollar for a NAPA gold when wix is the same thing with just different paint. Since it's "gold", it must be better.

there are more independent thinkers and less independent thinkers. there are many on here that parrot "only the best for my baby! that's why i only do mobil 1 synthetic" who are the same dependent fools why by those bosh +4 plug you're talking about, for example......its funny how money is no object, even with those who really shouldn't afford it.
Was using Mobil 1 0-W40. It's getting hard to find and the price has rocketed! Last time I went to Wmart, M1 5-W30 was in a 4Qt. jug for a little over $27. Valvoline Synth 5-W30 in a 5Qt. jug was $23. Guess which one I got..........
yup, I just paid $28 for the gallon, and $7.95 for the extra quart! I started using Mobil 1 in my Audi because that is what it calls for, and who am I to question the Germans!! The thing I do like about the synthetics is that their destruction point is higher than conventional oil; so in the everyday, everything is ok application, the synthetic wont do anything but cost more; BUT if something goes wrong and you start getting hot, the synthetic wont boil off and turn to sh%&. Then maybe I will just have to add some coolant instead of pistons; maybe? Or maybe Mobil 1 just has some really awesome marketing guys!!!!

I use once a year "because i drive less than 3K a year" Wallymart 10w30 synthetic oil + a Wix's oil filter costing me less than $25.00 per change. can't beat that price!
I've had many muscle cars and always used Castrol GTX 10W30. It works just fine in my 85 Vette. Do try to stay away from Fram filters as I read something about them now being made of far less superior materials than they used to be. That's all it took for me . Stick with the AC Delco filter.
I've been using Fram filters for over 30 years.
Over 50 cars, never an engine failure. (don't keep them long enough)
I'll continue to use them if I make it to another 30 years too.
I expect that the choice of oil should be dependent on the way the engine is used and the philosophy of the person who owns the engine.
If you drive 1 k miles per year and change oil every year almost any 5-30 oil and filter will do fine. In my case where I sometimes feel like going for a drive I might do a 300 mile round trip just for coffee.
I prefer to over oil (change more often than necessary) based on the idea that oil is cheaper than engines.
My preference in filters is wix but I have no problem with fram if and I have used fram in all my cars/trucks at one time or another.
I use synthetic oil and change oil and filter every 5000K Km.

The synthetic guys think Redline oil is really: Deadline oil presuming the engine is dead from not using synthetic.

Well I also used many Frams over the years. I never had a problem either. I just read something , I think it may have been in Consumer Reports listing Fram Filters at the bottom of the list as far as quality. Maybe it was just trash talk, I don't know. I don't want to chance it with them just now. Good luck if they still do the job for you!
Does anyone really think that using one brand of oil over another is going to improve engine life considerably? In the life of an engine if one brand was used over another what do you think the most you would get out of that engine would be a month, maybe two extra with the best vs the worst oil?
