So I'm on my way to work at 6:20 this AM...I'm a little late...I come off the on ramp and goose it a bit....I see a car coming up quick and sure enough...state trooper, CRAP! She must have just be coming down the freeway and saw me, not sure.
I'm not here to whine and try to get out of it. I got caught. What does bother me though is the 3rd thing she does is walk in the front of my car looking for the plate!!!!!! Wooohoo....I had mine on!!!!
Question: If I don't fight it and just pay we don't have points here so it's just insurance going up. I'm over 40...never had a ticket ever...do you think my insurance will go up? If so, by how much?

EDIT: It was 70 in a 55...
Want more tickets you can have some of mine...I've gotten plenty over the years....for one I wasn't even in a car Some I deserved some I really didn't.
Your insurance may not go up but just incase you want your insurance $ to remain the same you may want do one of the 6 hour driving school things that erases the points off.....I've done this like 5 times. I was getting worried for awhile since 5 times was the FL state maximum for awhile....but now there is no max here. The driving instructor now knows me by sight not good.

I'm not sure we have this here in MN since we don't have the points system thing. I will check into it though for sure if I can get it taken off all together. Thanks for the heads up.
We have a probation system here. If you do not have any tickets on your record then the judge will put you on probation for 6 months. If you do not get any more violations within that 6 month period then the ticket does not go on your record.
The last two I got (44/30 and 54/35) I went to court. I explained that on the first I was headed to pick up a 9 year old at the ball field and it was about tio storm. I got off with court costs, no points. The last one I was late for a dr's appointment. My other half went with me to see me in action. I explained that I hadn't had but 1 ticket since 1991 (at least on the record) and it wasn't a habit to speed, but I was running late and guilty. Court costs, a 1 hour class, but no points. She still doesn't understand how I got out of it. The last one I has a 86 SS Monte and the one before a 84 Conquest turbo.
Got 2 on my record now, and lost my job as a hvac tech, nobody will touch me for a job because of the tickets i was lucky ot get unemployment so fun and sun for the summer,
OH didnt get them the vette, in work van.....
We have merit system up here. If you have a clean driving record for 2 years you get one merit, with the max being 5. For each merit you get $5 off your license. You also get 5% off your insurance for every merit. Only downside is that we have no private insurance, its all run by the government!

I'm for sure going to have to see what I can do. It's worth a try to see if I can get rid of it before insurance finds it. Never having a ticket ever I'm going to try the it's not a usual thing for me, but I was late for work and I'm guilty angle...it's true atleast. I'm hoping we have something like this in MN.

I like this...Think I will use it if I have too...thanks for the idea. It falls exactly where I was...late and don't normally speed, just go with the flow usually.
This is what I was told by my insurance agent and it was confirmed by 2 other people I know in the insurance industry. 1 ticket on your record will not affect your current insurance rates.
But, since it will be on your record, it will affect your ability to shop around for the lowest rates if you decide to switch insurance carriers. That is why your agent will probably say to just let it go so it limits you from shopping around for better rates(mine did).
After asking around I decided to just plead guilty on the speeding ticket I received and it didn't affect my rates one bit. After awhile it was removed from my record and I was able to shop around again without issue.
I did the same thing going to work on a probation period once. I was doing 90, and slowed to on ramp to go to 45. I got caught doing 70 in a 45. I thnik I got just a $125 fine in wi. This was 10 years ago though.
Oh and the cop tried to hold me up to teach me a lesson, But I got to work on time LOL
I did not have any insurance effects when I got a ticket 4 years ago for "Failure to obey a traffic signaling device." A red light ticket that was worth 3 points(10-15mph over limit also gets you 3pts). Nothing happened.
Different states do things differently. Question one you say you goosed it , but were you speeding. Were you clocked on Radar? If not, then you may want to hire a Lawyer and take it to court. In our court they are often willing to plea bargain a ticket to a lessor offense. If you think you could not be clocked accurately (if no radar was used) you might want to fight it. When ever your stopped in the future and your license in put into the computer that speeder will come up, at least in the next year or so. Its your license and your insurance rates. Think it over.
I haven't had a ticket in a few years. But on one ticket, I was concerned about points,(long story) and hired a lawyer. The plea was a $200 fine and the shark was $300. If this is your first ticket, I would just eat it. The cost of the lawyer and the fine will most likely be more than than the annual increase in your rates.
The only real occasion to hire a lawyer for traffic court is to save your license and/or your job if a ticket puts it in jeopardy.
