I went to drive my car and the SYS was flashing on my dash. So i went to the owners manual and it said it was the CCM. Can some one tell me where i can find this CCM and is it a dealer only part. I called the part store and he acted like i didnt know what the hell i was talking about. Thanks ahead of time!
You may not need a new battery. I had a SYS light flash a few times on my 1991. It turns out both battery connections had loosened themselves, so the alternator was not able to charge the battery properly. I tightened the connectors and all has been fine. I would check the connections at both ends of both battery cables. Make sure they are clean and tight.
"SYS" doesn't directly mean that the battery or charge is bad. It means that the CCM has a stored trouble code. A weak battery (I presume) can cause the computer to sense a malfunction in one or some of the systems it controls, so that is often seen as a root cause and easy fix.
The CCM is one of your car's computers. They sometimes fail, but getting a new one is certainly not the first thing to do when you see "SYS". "SYS" is akin to the "check engine" light, but for issues other than the engine.

if sys flashes try pushing in on the DIC a little and see if it goes away, my 90 is like this.
i was driving this home tonight and about 20 min in my sys light was coming on too but it seemed to come one at random. I had my stereo running for about an hour before starting the car but the voltage was plenty hight, could this have something to do with it or could it have something to do with the fact that i just put in a new stereo today? thanks in advance.

What is the "DIC"? I have the same problem on my car and the dealer says it is because I installed an aftermarket stereo in the car and that the dimming circuit function is causing the problem because the JVC I put in won't dim. I installed a new battery, alternator, checked and cleaned the connections everywhere except the starter and I still have the annoying flash?????????

Yes.

That is exactly why aftermarket stereos can set a trouble code. I don't have links handy at the moment, but you can install a resistor in the circuit to keep the CCM from setting the code and flashing "SYS". If nobody beats me to it, I'll post a link to the instructions when I get home.
Fiddling with the battery and whatnot is not going to help in this instance, and this is why it drives me a little nuts when people simply say "bad battery" as if that's always the reason SYS is flashing. Sure, it is common, but a little background on what things really mean never hurt anyone and might have saved you some aggrivation. The service bulletin only says '90-'93 because it was published in '92. As far as I have been able to tell, the remedy is good through '96 as well. I will know for certain if I ever get around to pulling my stereo out and doing the work.
Thanks for the link Rolla! Am I reading this correctly that I cam put the resistors on each side of the console connector as opposed to pulling the radio out? That radio instal was no walk in the park let me tell you. The unit I installed was a JVC KW-XC777 which is a double din. It is a tight but amazing fit fot the factory hole. The sound is incredible!

Mine will flash 3 times about every 15 seconds. I had a shop check for codes and there were none. The dealer says it is the dimmer circuit to and from the aftermarket radio. I thing these posts subsequent have offered us a fix. When I removed the Bose there were stickers on it where it had been sent out for repairs three times before. I am not going to spend more money on it just to acheive mediocre sound (just my opinion). Thanks to everyone for your posts.

Thanks for the help jrp. I REALLY burned a lot of time on this! I cannot stand to ignore anything my car is telling me and after several hundred dollars invested in a battery, an alternator, and diagnostics, I still have that little sys friend "waving" at me!

had extensive work done by my mechanic, heater core, new AC unit, and vacuum box. They drained the battery, replaced the battery still came up with ‘sys’ flashing and no trip computer or speedometer stuck on zero. They found a broken wire from the ECM (orange wire). Replaced, all was well, now my DIC only works when I tap on it, sys just came back on but went off after a drive around the neighborhood (and has stayed off thus far)... hoping I do not need to have the dash taken out for a third time
