Check this out. Just got back from the exhaust shop to check a strange sound, turns out one Random Tech cat was COMPLETELY EMPTY and the other was about half gone. Nothing still stuck in the exhaust, I guess it all dumped out the tailpipes at some point in time!
I've had the car for about 20,000 miles, and they were fairly recently (within 10k) installed when I bought the car. Hopefully this hasn't happened to anyone else? Good thing I was in there to have them removed anyway
Make'em give you a discount since they only have to do half the work. Imagine the look on the person's face behind you when your exhaust spit all that stuff out the tailpipe at them when you took off
Happened to me as well. I got a HotCam and LT headers installed a few years back, and installed RT cats and an X-pipe but kept the original mufflers. After a year or so, I noticed that all the exhaust was coming out of one muffler. We tore it down and discovered that one cat was melted away on the inside, empty on the inside, and the other was melted in place. The problem was the tune - way too rich. The excess fuel melted the cats, and the debris from one plugged the muffler downstream. The good news was that fixing the tune, replacing the cats and mufflers gave me about 20-30 HP.
