Brought my 95 corvette in for service at my local dealer.
Got an oil change and coolent flush, mind you this is a very strong
running mint car with only 39k miles on her. brought her in because i was going on a road trip the next day. 200 miles into my trip my engine developed a clanking sound when i started it back up after filling
it with gas. i killed it immediatly had it towed to the nearest chevy dealer got a rental and continued on my trip hoping for the best. that was on friday dealer said they would give me an answer monday they called me this morning to tell me that the engine siezed as they where
analyzing it! car did not over heat and all the oil was still in side her. dont get it never had any problems with my car ever. i figured the dealer by my house where i had it serviced was responsible. i called
them they didnt want to her about it. so i called gm corporate to complain now there doing some kind of investigation. the dealer told gm that the failure of the engine was prob due to the age of the car.
i am just beside myself and dont know what else to do. can someone give me some good advice? oh and the dealer that analyzed the car offered me 6k for it.
are you sure there is oil? timing chain? knock sensors? codes?
check several times, my brother had a shop forget his oil plug, or forgot to tighten it. and he found out 40 miles later down the road
I HIGHLY doubt your engine was siezed when you brought it there. Have you taken out the plugs and tried to turn it over?
DO NOT LET THEM SCREW YOU, and do not sell them the car. until you take it home, or to a place to inspect it yourself. if it is a junk car all around though I would take the 6k,
MY WAG is that they overheated the car, perhaps idling in a closed location. Another possibility is that they had drained the oil and they tried to analyse the sound before refilling it. (I did this in 1967 while working on a customers car at a dealer, caught it fast and resulted in no problems) Good luck, that is the pits!!!!
Your car was/is worth more that $6K. it was not likely siezed when you had it towed in.
i checked the car before it was towed in michigan on friday thats where i broke down. oil was full and coolant was full also. the dealer in michigan just looked the car over didnt do any work to her. the car is sitting in my drive right now. had my brother meet me in michigan on my way back home, i dropped my rental off and picked up my car with his trailer. tomorrow im going to the dealer where it was serviced on thursday its around the corner from me.
Sounds like you lost oil pressure. What oil did they did they put in? Your going to have to drop the oil pan to really see what's up. I think you and the company that changed to oil are going to have to agree to an independant third party to check the engine out and see who is at fault.
It could be the wrong product in the engine or it could be that you oil pump just failed. One way, they pay. The other way, you pay. Either way it;s gong to cost some $$$$.
200 miles means possibly oil leak or oil pump failure on that low a mileage engine.
They likely saw the sticker on the oil change but did you tell them a dealer changed the oil?
Did you notice anything like high temps or noise before engine seized up?
It could be mechanical failure but I suspect oil leak if you did not check it before towing it.
Something simple like not removing the first gasket on the oil filter or not tightening the drain plug could cause the failure.
If it's as nice as you say you can get a short block from GM though you might have to buy a Camaro 4 bolt replacement and stick in a Comp Cams Hot Cam and clean up the heads by full port job and 1.6 roller rockers . LOL
Sorry for your loss , it just don't sound right nor deserved !
I dont believe them either. It got serviced at my local chevy dealer. The second dealer where it was towed was informed of this infact they put it into there notes on the service sheet. Gm customer service is also informed of all the facts. Maybe the oil pump or pick up is at fault just strange that it happened right after they serviced it.
The engine was making a horrible noise. This happened right after i filled it with gas and let it sit for a few minutes. When i went to start it i heard a metal on metal sound. I then turned the car off right away. I knew something was wrong. Thats when i called the 800 chev usa to have it towed. Engine ran when it went to the second dealer. There notes say they ran the car at idle and the noise went away then ran it at 2000 rpm noise came back and then the motor siezed. I want to be clear on a couple of things the car did not overheat while i was driving coolent was full and it did not loose any oil. Infact the oil and coolent are stilll full now. Had it serviced the day before oil change and coolent flush at castle chevrolet in villa park.

Did you check the before & after mileage. Maybe someone took it for a ride???
When they flushed the coolent, did they remove all the trapped air? I read that you have to bleed the engine cooling system or there will be areas that coolent will not reach because of trapped air. I think this applies to the LT1 engine.
Larry you are right. If you dont get all the air out it develops pockets and they can get extremely hot. My best friend is a master tech at bmw going on 25 years and he thinks thats the problem also. Hes going to look at my car tom for me.
The engine will have to be disassembled and inspected. Hopefully you get the engine repaired without having to go legal. In any event, you lost the use of your car.
If you can prove that the engine was damaged by improper maintenance, there are legal avenues that should net an engine repair. Contact the repair facility that accomplished the work first. They might do their best to make right their mistake (they should have insurance). If not, contact legal advice before doing anything to the damaged engine. Proper documentation is a must. They will only be responsible for the damage, not a total engine rebuild.
