I did put some gloves on when I replaced the bulbs in the dash, I really didn't want to tear into the dash any sooner than I would have to.
I think that warning about not touching the bulbs is meant for halogen & high intensity ones. I never had a problem with the regular 1156,57 etc. types. I am just going to replace every bulb in the car with L.E.Ds if I can, & be done with it.
Believe me I did toy with that idea when the 3rd brake light on mine was out, however, just picture them taking a screw driver trying to PRY your taillight out. That is all I could imagine...
Hate to say it, but if you really want to take it somewhere, maybe you should take it to a dealer... You will more than likely get raped, but at least it will be done. Price all 4 while you're at it. If it's the same labor charge, may as well get them all done at the same time
Is the third brake light really that bad? It looks like it is just held on with 2 screws. Then I say you have a wire to unplug. I'll be pulling mine off anyways when I get it painted. That cover sure likes to fade fast. I'll replace the bulb when I put it back together. It looks like a special bulb I'll have to get ordered, I'm sure I'll get raped and they'll want to sell me 2 bulbs. I think they are like $12-$15 a piece.
Anyways, yeah I wouldn't let Jiffy Lube change the bulbs. They'll probably scratch the paint. For that, I'd take it to the dealer if I couldn't get someone to do it. It is tight, and its a good thing I have long skinny arms. But make sure to put in long life bulbs. I always do if they have them in the bulb I need.

You need to find a 10 year old kid, pay him $5 bucks and have him put his arm in there to press the button turn it and pull it out all without dropping it. Good luck.
On a Early C4 Vert. Yes. The screws are behind the bumper. You have to go through the license plate. I pulled the gas cap cover off to get to it.
NO, that's the LATER Vettes. The earlier ones (86+) all have the 3rd brake lights on the roof. I've had it off numerous times, and you don't want to touch the small bulbs with your greasy hands, they are halogen.
The rear tail lamp bulbs, with one hand thru the license hole I used a 1/4 inch drive for the 3 nuts that hold the inboard tail lamp in place. After the first turn they can be unscrewed by hand. When all 3 nuts are off pull the whole lamp out and change the bulb. Then with the same small hand/arm reach in to the hole of the inboard lamp and go to the outside lamp and either take that out altogether or work the bulb holder out so you can change the bulb.
A few scratches, a little blood a curse or two and it's all done in about 1 1/2 hours per side (two lights).

On the convertible it is in the bumper above the brake light.. due to the lack of a roof
I can see if my arms are any smaller. I will send you a PM with my cell #.
Big thank you to Redwing he has not had to make the trip yet but if I can't get it this weekend he will come by and give it a shot and I really appreciate the offer.
Well the saga continues....I got a hold of a service manual and it says to remove the wheel and interwheel housing seems like a lot of work to change a tail light even more so when it does not work!
