I have a guy that lives just down the road, his dad had a '84 vette garage queen, the car is in great shape, just needs possibly u-joints and/or bushings maybe rear shocks. Power seats need work, maybe just a fuse. Everything in this car is working (except the power seats) and I know it's a good solid car. I've had other local vette owners of C4's and they say it's a good car. But here's the deal, I have the truck below in my sig, which is a 2002 Chevy z71 it has 150k miles, but is a great dependable truck. This guy is willing to trade me even for the truck. His low retail on 84 vette is around 7500$ my truck book med value is about 9500$. He is not willing to give me any boot, should I do the trade for a pretty good car and hold on to this American classic while I have the chance, or stick with my truck and wait for a newer c4 that needs no work (yet I have no idea of the true history of another car). That's my big thing...I know this car has been taken car of, garage kept and it was a 70+ yr old fella that drove this car, it has 125k miles on it and only 1000 miles in 5 years did this guy put on it.
I would not trade. I would sell the truck and then take the cash and get a much better Corvette for the money. In December I bought my 1991 with 43,000 miles on it for $ 7900 in excellent condition. I spent $ 200 fixing it up.
This is what I would like to do, but I don't have a spare vehicle to drive in the mean time between sale and buy...... Oh and I still owe $7000 on the truck, book is about $9500... don't give me but $2500 to play with.... banks have been turning 15yr customers down due to ecomony... hate to take the chance........ My heart says DO IT, my head says IDIOT if you do.....
....Great looking car you have too!

Reason: add details
84 is not a bad car, but you can do a lot better. My 2 cents.
Thanks..I know I could... I got some newer vette owners to call and discuss even trades on late model C4's, if none of them will trade, I will take the 84, tag in MS is only 26$ =) antique

If it's going to be your only vehicle you'll have to ask yourself what kind of use will it get. Obviously a Corvette is a lot cooler than a truck but if you need to haul things around or do a lot of driving on rough roads or in bad weather a Corvette isn't the answer. Also you'll have to come up with $7,000 to pay off the truck, you won't be able to transfer the loan to the Corvette.

Not sure about values being that high on either one.
I have a black 02 LS EC in nice shape with 106k and they are selling for about 5k on average if not less.
Tough times out there and lots of vehicles on the market-drives the price down.
Id get a C4 as a 2nd car but not as a sole one and only car, expecially if its been sitting a long time. Believe me I think about it but know better too, this thing is too reliable.
Thanks guys, well My wife just got home and I think the vette fever has worn off alittle on her. She's wanting to wait now. The values I'm just getting from kbb and antique books online. I hear that neither one are actually selling for near that much.
So i'm saying no to the 84, i have one guy with a great 96, w/95k miles that is going to think about the trade, if they say no to me then i'll just sit it out awhile until the truck is paid for then go back to the bank for a c5 =)

kmcoldcars you must be living right. Thats a nice car
I was looking for a Corvette for about 3 months. I called on about 30 and actually looked at about 10 before I bought this one. I ended up flying into Oakland from Washington State and bought the car in Stockton and drove it home in December on a lot of snow and ice. It was not a really fun trip but I had no real problems and none with the car. The photo was taken 2 blocks from our house and was as close as I could drive the car. The tow truck was $ 200.00. <p>
