Long story short, I have an 84. I have new headliner material, but no backer board. Is there something close that material that I could get at the hardware store or craft store as as substitute?
If so, what is used and where do I get it?
Thanks, Glen
PS: I found a great material to replace my Bose speaker fabric -the base material that they use for needle point -Hobby Lobby has it in black and it is a course weave slightly stiff material that looks good IMO.

Use 1/4" rolled cork available at any hardware or lumberyard. Cut to fit with scissors, glue to top w/spray adhesive, spray adhesive again to top side, lay down headliner material (get it right the first time!), smooth out, tuck edges under the perimeter & done! Easy and makes for great sound deadener too!
I didn't use any backer board, mainly to get a little more headroom. Just removed the old stuff, cleaned the fiberglass with Simple Green, then used 3M adhesive to put the new fabric up. Looks great, and it's not like you ever touch it anyway...
