Hello fellow C4 owners!
I am new to your forum and my C4 as well but love the thing and want to see it all fixed up!
I bought it a few weeks ago and have been on here ever since.
It has 144 thousand miles on it but it is a old car I guess (86)!
Anyways as stated in my topic I cant turn off the alarm. I Dont have a door key(also need help on how to get one of those) to just shut it off when it activates.
About a week into my purchase I had no alarm problems but when I started to fiddle with the lock switch and closed the door, reopening it was quite a mess with all the noise.
I now have the horn unplugged and just hear a clicking noise when ever I open the door. What I want to know is how do I get the alarm setting back to how it was. So that when I open the door it wont make a sound!
Thanks for your help
Ben
The "Forced Entry Alarm" is disarmed when the ignition is turned on, but the horn, once activated, can only be turned off with the door key.
There may be a chance that GM could make you a key, otherwise a locksmith could.
Are you locking any doors ?
Here is info from my factory manual, the first part is about the alarm.
If I get what you're saying is that you have tripped the alarm. The only way I know of to reset it is you need the door key just like Agent 86 told you. Get one and put it in your door lock and turn it. Good luck.
A Chevy dealer can make you a key from your VIN (I don't know what hoops they might have to jump through to get the key-code from HQ though)... but there's no telling what kind of identification they'll demand of you to do it.
You do have the ignition key though, so they may just make it for you with no questions asked.
No I am not locking the doors (top was already lost when I got it).
Just wish I could turn the alarm off and be able to plug my horn in again.
You need to have a locksmith make a set of door keys for you right off your door. That's what you need. Had the exact same thing when I got mine. Came with no door key.Turning the key in the door shuts the alarm off which you're not able to do. That's why you're also hearing that ticking noise coming form inside your dash when your horns are unplugged. Get a set of door keys made, plug your horns back in, turn the key in the door lock, and you're done. Untill then, you'll have to live with the ticking from the dash and unplugged horns. Disconnecting the batttery for a while might or might not work, I can't remember.

Not a good idea. Neither the dealer or the owner has anyway of knowing if the door lock cylinders are still the original. So it's a toss up guess. If the keys don't match, the dealer won't take them back due to their custom nature. Plus, there's a certain year cutoff to how far back a dealer can go back and do this. A locksmith is the answer. I wasted $45 for nothing having a dealer cut me an orignal replacement ignition key going off the VIN, which did not match the unknown to me replacement ignition key cylinder. No need for the thread starter to go out and risk the same waste of time and money. I ended up doing what I should have done in the first place, which was to have a locksmith come and make a key right off the car with his tool.
