Since we are on this subject I decided to see how other Corvettes owners deal with changing flats. Seems C2,and C3 have a similar set up as C4 but worst since you must undo two other bolts toward the front of the carrier to get the tire holder to drop. Then I read C5 and C6 have no spare tires. How does that one work?
C6's have emergency run flat tires. If I recall correctly, they are only good for aapproximately 50 mile at 50 mph. I would rather use a flatbed.
I have AAA plus. If I traveled more out of town I would go Premier.
I had a air conditioner bearing go out on my D/D. They towed it 125 miles. Since I had plus he gave me a break on the 25 miles. It cost me $35 and he put it at my local garage which I trust.
Another thing to think about on your insurance is uninsured/under insured. In this state minimun coverage it 15/30. It cost me about $35 to raise my uninsured/under insured $300,000. Considering how many uninsured/under insured there are around here, I wanted to make sure I was covered.
This happen with my suburban, comming home from Lake Tahoe and it broke down plus i was pulling my boat, called AAA, put the sub on the flatbed with the dogs inside and towed the boat about 150 miles, total bill zero.
I have the AAA Extended coverage more for towing than anything else. AAA covers the member, not the car. You can use your AAA membership even if you are a passenger in a car that breaks down. But you are limited to a number of times you can use the tow service whether or not it's for your car or the one you are riding in.
Also, AAA typically doesn't cover getting an "underslung" spare tire out from a car and installing it. That's usually a separate charge.
If a C4 rear tire goes flat, it's even that much more of a biotch to get the spare out. And some C4's have the jack clipped to the spare.....

Tow Truck Drivers have a hard job and are usually unappreciated by their bosses. A ten spot usually does wonders and a twenty got me driven to a parts store at 9 P. M. on a Saturday, in the middle of nowhere (Buttonwillow, Ca) to buy a bolt and a nut (disapeared somewhere on CA 5) to re-adjust my alternator. He even loaned me the wrenches to tighten them up.
$20= a 45 minute delay in Buttonwillow, California, in the middle of nowhere, at 9 P. M. on a Saturday, on a six hour trip, with kids versus motel rooms and finding a garage the next day, priceless
