I put my 84 on our AAA tow and roadside assistance plan last year. Today after taking the spare tire down for the first time to check the tire and use the jack i am glad I am covered. Was Chevrolet kidding ? Trying to change a flat on a wet rainy night with that set up in just plain nuts. I bet many Corvette owners cursed Chevrolet for this one.
I have AAA Plus (three 100 mile tow's per year). Used it once in five years....half a mile from home, the fuel pump crapped out. They flat bedded it home.
I have AAA Plus. Covers all your cars.....my 71 has been on a flatbed a number of times. The 88 went on a long ride once also so it has paid for itself!!!

I have AAA nad never used it. But if I needed towing in the middle of nowhere, without AAA, the tow truck knows he's gotcha. That means $300 or more.
i have had this since it came out last year had to get towed 190 miles when i blew a 1/2 shaft . sure glad i didnt have to pay the bill . the driver said they normally charge 7.50 a mile .
Since we are on this subject I decided to see how other Corvettes owners deal with changing flats. Seems C2,and C3 have a similar set up as C4 but worst since you must undo two other bolts toward the front of the carrier to get the tire holder to drop. Then I read C5 and C6 have no spare tires. How does that one work?

Last time I changed a tire on one of my vettes, you only need to lower the rear of the carrier, slide the spare out, then you can drop the front of the carrier to put the full size tire in. No need to unbolt anything else.
Hardest part is unbolting the lugwrench from behind the seat and on the '93, taking the jack off the spare with that crazy spring. But the '95 is easier with the jack being stored behind the passenger seat in the compartment.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
