Saw this pictures from a different website, thought you guys would like to see them
No back story on the photos other than the guy in Canada spent 2 years on restoring the car and never got to drive the car before the accident. If you look, the left arm failed because it is on the ground with the car so that means the car was up in the air and then fell down.
That happened to one of our guys here a few years ago.
He spent several months researching all the lifts out there and being an engineer, decided on one that seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
Well, one day he hears a crash in his garage and his '69 which was on the four post lift had fallen over onto his '96.
One of the posts had collapsed. He inspected the locking system, all was well with that, the post simply bent and as it bent, the weight of the car kept it going.
The manufacturer of the lift didn't want to take the blame so they tried everything to not pay for damages.
I don't know how it all worked out in the end, all I do know is that two beautiful cars were ruined.
Wow that's horrible. I went with a Backyard Buddy since it seems to be the most solid 4-post out there. I remember the one Frank was talking about but forget the name of the lift.
I've seen several pictures regarding lift failure. I'm just not convinced that cars where meant to be left up in the air. Sure, it's great to work on them, but in the air for storage ? I'm sure several forum members have them, and many more of us have dreamed about having one... but the more I see pic's like this and hear of other horror stories I just don't have any faith in them.
What nice looking car, of course that couldn't have happed in the early part of the restoration. If no one was hurt would be the important part of this whole thing.
most lifts advise you to inspect certain things at different intervals. On two posts things such as bolt torque(at floor) saftey locks and wire. this looks like a lock failure or cable failure. Its up to you to protect youself and equipment. www.gregsmithequipment.com has a good video on lift failure
