If I was actively researching vehicles and pulling multiple VINs then I would pay for a 30 day account. It's only around $40/mo for unlimited VINs and in my case well worth it. I actually found my old Vette through Carfax.

When you pay for Carfax you agree to their terms & conditions which specifically state for personal use only, which means you and you alone. So it is a violation of the terms and conditions you have agreed to. And a violation of forum rules. None of us are perfect, though, that we agree on.

maybe soliciting on the forum may be against the rules but they are not the carfax police.

We all can make a choice to do what we want when we pay for a service.

It is a gray area if we choose to run a report for someone as far as personal use is concerned. The difference, as far as carfax is concerned, is personal use or business use. Meaning you may not charge another party for running carfaxes.

When I purchased my vette a couple years ago I ran probably 30 reports and they sent me an email asking if I was using it for personal use.

My response: none of your business I paid for a 30 day usage. If you think I am violating the terms of use have your attorney contact me.

Come by. I need lots of free labor. I thought this was America where we had a right to be paid for the fruits of our labor. Read your Carfax user agreement and then come back and let us know that it is OK to provide the reports to other members.

Hey, go back to kindergarten and learn how to read. I highlighted the appropriate section of YOUR user agreement.

The word "and" located between "personal" and "non-commercial" means that the service, as purchased, can't be used for commercial purposes. Giving a report to a friend for free would not be a commercial use while selling it would be. Another way of looking at it would be if one of our kids asked us to check a VIN for them would doing so be a non-personal use of Carfax? I'm not an attorney and it would be great if there is one reading this thread that could briefly state what it means when the word "and" is inserted between use conditions in a contract.

That's what I was trying to say.

You may not resell it. If I did a report for a car my friend was considering is that not personal use. yes it is

I guarantee you that if I did a report for someone and they tried to take me to court, it would never fly.

If copyright violation doesn't float your boat, then let's then go back to forum rules, which I believe you agreed to abide by as a condition of use of this site:

"The Corvette Forum does not condone any activity which is dishonest, unethical or immoral with that said, members will be required to purchase their own Carfax report, rather than to share a purchase from another member.

Although such activity does not directly affect the forum, it does promote a procedure which the forum deems to be inappropriate.

Carfax is used as an example, but, the rule will apply to any similar activity or business."

Nothing to do with CarFax Rules. This Forum doesn't allow it. Petition to change the rules, find another Forum, or start your own.
IMHO a $45 charge (or what ever it is ) is really cheap if you have no idea about the car you want to buy.
CarFax is in no way responsible for the accuracy of their report.

It really is funny to listen to people who steal through white collar crime like recording piracy, tax/insurance fraud, lies when licensing their cars, misuse of licenses like CARFAX, etc, and they blather about trying to justify their complete disregard for rules, morals and laws because they don't suit their personal needs. I'd love to hear the revolting justifications you pass on to your kids. Thats why the world keeps getting worse.

I'd also like to see the Forum review this thread, take those who proudly proclaim their ignoring the CARFAX forum rules and ban them.
