The rear frame that holds the fuel tank is a bolt on alluminum section. Easy fix. The bad part, I see would be painting the whole car. It would never look right without a complete re paint. I dont see it being worth $11000. Maybe $6k, to me.
Salvage title, big deal, fix it up and the neighbors couldn't tell it from any other Corvette. It will always be a Grand Sport. How many salvaged cars do you think they run through Mecums or any of the other auction houses. Do you really think the salvage label sticks through state to state after clearing the auctions and trading hands several times.... not... or I should say not always.
Unless you have disposible income and really like this car, like the majority have said, stay away. Pictures are worth a thousand words, opening up Pandoras Corvette is worth a few thousand dollars.
I am sorry but I just don't get the hype around the GS or the 1996 lt4
These cars are all marketing hype and will probably fade into Corvette history along with many many years of Corvette production.
I don't believe that you build Collector's items,(78 pace car) the market and time determines what people pay collector prices for.
Larry Shinoda and Zora Duntov didn't build Collectors Edition big block Corvettes. It just happened.
My money is on the Ron Fellows 530 hp / 300 cars built)Tribute car.
The LT4 is rated at 30 hp over the LT1 (averaging 325 to 360).
The GS although limited production is under 400hp and has a questionable choice of colors (not most peoples taste). My choice is buy any Corvette with SUPER LOW MILES drive it on sunny Sundays and keep it immaculate, you may not get Collector car value, but you will get WAY more than market value if advertised right.
Time will tell if my opinion is valid.
I know I know LT4 and GS owners let er rip

............................Now you did it,hear that? Its the GS praise flood gates flyin open..
Despite the high mileage, it looks like a very well kept car. It's a shame it got torn up like that.
It could have been [restored/freshened up] before it got whacked. But still, that's a lot of money for a broken / high mile C4.
I know there were only 1000 GS, but I really don't see what's so special about them. It's just an LT4 with fat wheels on the back, stick-on flairs and special paint job. Take one nice LT4, add wheels, Flairs and paint, and except for the serial number you'd pretty much have one!

The price is a bit steep yet what is the going price for a GS thats got 100K on the clock? 20K easy these days.
So half that for a wrecked one isn't out of the question.
Like the man said a GS is a GS. No one says "lets see the title"

Olcrusty said that
BUT, the salvage history will still be on Carfax, etc. To bad it had to happen to a GS.

Uh, Actually that's just about the first thing they say, especially the kind of people who want GS's. What would that car be worth with a clean title and condition comensurate with the mileage? About $10-$12k. The only reason people buy GS's is for collector value (okay, maybe a few for the color scheme). Just because a few museum quality cars are priced at $40-$60k, doesnt mean the others are worth half that.
