I just sold the SR, and I took it off and packed it up today. I took my old stock junk, and went at it with a cut off wheel to make 10 minutes short work of some basic siameseing, and porting (as I know it will not really help)
So now that I did that, i want to paint it or something. Have you guys primed your parts or just painted them. I might just use some black header paint, it holds fine for brakes, so...
Thanks
Oh yeah, I stripped my valve covers too, so can I just use a heavy sand paper, and prime and paint them?

Ack! I can't believe you spent all winter installing that then never drove it. For the surface your painting, using primer and sanding can blend imperfections. You could clean it really well and paint it but some colors really show imperfections even more. I did not strip my V/C when I painted them. I lightly sanded them and cleaned them very well with mineral spirits then sprayed them.

No It only takes about 2 hours to install, and 1.5 to take off. .
Painting, I am not serious about the stock garbage, I just wanted to know if paint will stick with out primer. Not for looks really just better painted than nothing. I am looking at about a $5 paint job on it. Good enough just to get it running again.
I would never waste my time or money on the stock intake for a real paint job

Sounds like a good time to spend some of that SR money at Harbor Freight and get the powder coater
It would be cool, but I don't have much to paint with it. I am only painting this so it doesn't look so plain. Eventually I will have an HSR, or a different car.

you need to hire a professional you can't DIY ...
all kidding aside here is a $10 job:
I used HVT High Heat aluminum paint 3 light coats and 2 light coats of High Heat clear. I let it cure in the trunk of my car for 4 days in the 100 degree weather.. You have to be gentle with it until it cures on the car or you can bake it I guess.

This is what it looks like cured:
Not trying to pull a DB Cooper on Polo's thread, but!
What's the benefits of that system on an L98 versus cost? Is it difficult for someone who is not a mechanic but can handle a wrench fairly well? Cost if you care to share.

Degreaser & media blasting is best/easiest....once done no primer just a bunch of paint coats then let it cure for a few days. The HTV paint is good.
